If we could pick two words to describe Angela? Pocket Rocket. For episode 20 of We are 6th Position, we sit down with Angela, a talented triple threat whom we are lucky enough to have on the 6P teaching team.
Angela joined the team and our community, as our very first tap teacher, at the ripe age of 19. From that first class of four people (in a church hall, above an Indian eatery on Northbourne Avenue), she single-handedly grew the tap community at 6P - its a testament to her teaching that some of those first tappers continue to tap with us, today. Along the way, Angela has broadened her dance and performance experience through performing in a number of local musical theatre productions, and competing in Channel 7's Dance Boss - all while maintaining a successful career in the Australia Public Service! Click play or download to hear Angela's story.

Start dance as a child. Stop dancing when you become an adult / complete high school. The reasons for stopping dance upon becoming an adult tend to vary, but its an all-too-common story (Sally from episode seven is a prime example).
For Jenny, the appeal of 6th Position was our adult-exclusive environment. She found a dance home that was just for adults, shared by other like-minded adults. And despite her long history with dance, she is still learning more about herself through dance - its a continuous learning journey and one she hopes to incorporate into her budding teaching career. Last episode, we chatted to Mariette about beginning dance as a middle-aged adult. Today, on the other side of the spectrum, we talk to Belinda about being a life long dancer. As a new member of the 5-0 club, she has no plans to stop dancing any time soon!
Alongside her life-long love of ballet, Belinda also tells us about other adventures life has thrown her way: starting a small business, moving house(s) and soccer. In short, she shows us you can have your cake and eat it, too; mixing the relentless pace of normal life and an all-consuming passion for dance is very much possible. And while we've got your attention... Have you heard Aimee Whittaker from Phly Crew is visiting 6th Position to teach two jazz masterclasses on Sunday, 2 February?! Read all about it, and then head to our online timetable to sign up!

Here it is... episode 16 of the We are 6th Position podcast, and the final one for the 2019 season.
Today, we are sharing Amrita's story. At a time where our Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, has decided the arts is not worthy of federal representation; the release of our season finale has been serendipitous. The arts - dance at a community level - has changed the course of Amrita's life, and we have no doubt, there are many others for whom dance and the arts has held a pivotal role in their lives. This episode holds a special story of hope; it you are on a path of recovery (physical, mental, emotional or otherwise), then this episode is dedicated to you.
We are 6th Position podcast will return in 2020. In the meantime, you can listen back over all 16 episodes and check out our We are 6th Position Facebook album so see where it all started!
We wish a safe and happy festive break - catch you on the flip side!

Welcome to Episode 14 of We are 6th Position! For this episode, we talk to Julia (you may recognise her voice from Episode 13: Making Friends), a senior secondary school teacher who realised she needed to practice the things she was teaching and preaching to her students and team. One day, Julia realised for all the times she would tell her students to 'take chances' or encourage her team to 'refill your tanks', she had yet to do it for herself.
Click play or download to hear Julia's story and how in taking a chance with ballet, she found her mental and emotional fuel.

Let's be frank: making friends as an adult can be an excruciating social experience. By the time we reach adulthood, most of us have established social circles or are quite comfortable with our own company, thank you very much.
Sometimes though, new friendships can be found in unexpected places with the most unexpected people. For Julia and Rebecca - two individuals with very different histories - this is exactly what happened. Both women embarked on their separate dance journeys with every expectation of dancing and no expectation of finding this special friendship they now share.
So, ladies, please tell us all your secrets! Click play or download to hear the story of Julia and Rebecca's friendship.
