    “I think I’d probably talk to a few more people who have done it before.”
    “If I was going to start all over again, I would plan my content in advance so I would know exactly which steps I would like to deliver for each podcast. I would potentially intersperse it with advice for one podcast, the next would be an interview, advice in the next one, and the next one as an interview, so listeners get a variety”.
    How complicated is it to do a Stand-alone Podcast?
    “Obviously, it is hard to be a popular podcast, I am sure, because you need a certain number of downloads and you’ve got to be really regular”.
    What are the most important things to consider?
    “Find out how many podcasts you really need to upload at the beginning in order to get noticed.”
    “If anyone else is going to do it, definitely do the research first and have a bit more of a plan”.

    * How marketing changes lives
    * Basic Bananas’ impact on people
    * Why marketing is so overlooked

    * Podcasting achievements/impacts
    * Why podcasting has become “hot” all of a sudden
    * Educating audiences who listen to the podcast
    * Franziska’s thoughts on how to name a podcast

    What would’ve made it easier/What would you have changed?
    “What would have made it better would have been to promote it from an earlier stage to our community. We’ve only done this for about two years or so. We’ve got little podcast flyers with our show on them. So, it has the name of the show and even a description of how to get it.
    “We were doing it a little bit organically and we can definitely see quite a big rise in listeners every month because of being more proactive about it.”
    When someone is considering a podcast as a medium, how do they know if it’s for them? How complicated is it to do a podcast?
    “I think if they can add value. So, if they know they can add value to listeners in some way. For instance, an interview talking about specific topics that add value to their target audience… If their target audience would listen to that then I think it is a good medium”.
    Which podcast should I follow, why and how often?
    “James Altucher – I quite like his show. Then there’s The Song Writing Podcast. There’s one that my friend recently told me about which I haven’t really checked out too much but it is on my phone… Stuff You Should Know. I think it is tough but I love this one – it’s called Social Triggers Insider. I’ve got Tim Ferriss on YouTube as well.”

  • 48. OmniPresence – Use Your Podcast to Be Everywhere with Trevor Young
    Trevor Young is an experienced public relations and marketing communications practitioner. Today he focuses on helping companies and individuals to grow their audience and build their brand. He is using strategic content marketing and social media communications. Content marketing is a great way for brands to tell their story, and podcasting is one of its best vehicles. Trevor Young has done all these through a combination of speaking, writing, consulting, mentoring and training.
    In this episode we talk about:

    * Trevor’s podcasting journey
    * Why podcasting is “hot” right now
    * What works best in podcasting
    * The importance of exposure
    * How omnipresence is important and relevant
    * The meaning of “Hybrid Media”
    * Social media techniques
    * Content marketing and how you can use it
    * Why connection is important
    * The #AskGaryVee show’s exposure and how it’s leveraged
    * Strategic purpose
    * Owning your own media
    * How to gather things in an integrated way
    * The importance of credibility in business
    * How to build trust and influence
    * The importance of awareness to have visibility
    * Being recognised to see your purpose and what you stand for
    * Building your brand
    * The impact that you can make and how to change people’s lives
    * Showing your consumers just how good you are to prove how useful you can be
    * The importance of taking time and making the extra effort to earn and attract media
    * The importance of face-to-face events

     How complicated is it to do podcasting?
    You need to align these things:

    * What is your purpose?
    * What is your mission?
    * What impact do you want to make?

     What are the most important things to consider?

    * Pull all of these elements together with purpose and strategic intent.
    * Build influence and trust. Trust is the social currency of today. Second is recognition. That means people actually seeing you. They can identify who you are and understand your purpose.
    * Not everyone is going to be a customer and not everyone’s going to be a client. A lot of your audience will be friends, advocates, supporters, enthusiasts, allies and champions. What you do, what you stand for; embrace them all because they’re the ones that can spread your message further and further.
    * Think bigger. What impact do you want to make? How do you want to change people’s lives? These are the things that are going to differentiate you from everyone else.
    * It’s really good to have a podcast, or any other contents for that matter. To get found, to get people to subscribe, to email or get through that process and build a list. All of that. It’s all really good, but nothing happens until you are validated. The important point of Omnipresence is that people will find you in different ways. Everything you do is to show that you know what you are talking about, that you are passionate about it and that you have a point of view.

  • 47. 5 productive tools that make every podcasters’ life better with Yenny Stromgren
    Photographer Yenny Stromgren offers commercial, portraiture, fashion and editorial photography for companies and publications.

    When Yenny is not working on commissioned assignments, consumed by one of many photographic projects or doing interviews for her podcast and blog, Everyday Light Warriors, you can see her long boarding or just enjoying the waves with her boys.
    In this episode we talk about:

    * Yenny Stromgren’s story of coming to Australia 16 years ago
    * Her love of photography
    * Australian culture and people
    * How Yenny became an accidental podcaster
    * How podcasting uplifted her spirit as she experienced a crisis in her life
    * How she gathered her friends together and interviewed them about positivism just to inspire herself
    * How she joined the We are Podcast community
    * The launch of the Everyday Light Warriors podcast
    * Yenny’s mission to inspire people and the world through interviewing people about challenges and happiness
    * Her achievements and wins as a result of starting a podcast
    * How she really pushed the boundaries of her fears
    * How she learned to speak clearly
    * Overcoming the fear of contacting people to be on her podcast show
    * The passion of doing a podcast
    * How she loves using apps and learnt everything about the technical side of podcasting
    * The functions of Zapya, Boomerang and Trello apps
    * How she likes using the Convert kit app and Calendly to save time
    * Avoiding procrastination and asking for help
    * The importance of conversations and getting feedback from people
    * The importance of saying thank you
    * Asking for recommendations from interviewees to get more guests for the show
    * How she found her life’s purpose through doing a podcast
    * Her interest in listening to stories from the heart

    What would have made your podcast journey easier knowing what you know now?
    “Just do it and stop procrastinating and ask for help more. Also, I get a few emails from people listening to the show. I don’t think it’s about numbers, I think it’s about the conversation and feedback from people. And now if a person emails me, I call them back. And I try to chat to them and see what they like and what they don’t like about the show. I think that’s so important because they are your listeners. “
    When someone is considering a podcast as a medium, how do they know if it’s for them?
    “This is for anyone thinking about doing a podcast: you should do because it’s your passion. Otherwise, you can’t do it. You shouldn’t do it.”
    How complicated is it to do a podcast?
    “You have no clue how many times I redid things. For one show, I think I spent four hours doing the intro and outro because I was so nervous. On the technical side, I always loved the apps and learning things. I’ve learned everything so I don’t outsource anything yet because I believe I had to learn the craft first. So, it’s just about having a system and then I can outsource the boring bits. You know I’ve learned. Even my website, I do that myself with the show notes, my blog, and everything. “
    What are the most important things to consider?

    * As a I started as an accidental podcaster, I didn’t really have the avatar, I didn’t have any purpose who I was talking to. And now I found that person in my audience.
    * Also, say thank you to people and people will help you along the way. I think it’s important to ask the people you interview for others who they can recommend. As you do that, and as you interview people, you kind of get more and more interesting people and high profile people as well. Because you get recommendations, and it’s so much easier to get a yes.
