We are in the second week of this New Year, and many are still thinking about about either new year resolutions or what/how they can improve from the previous year.  Well, St. Paul gives us the guidance on how to forget, look forward and to press toward the goal.

There are just 7 days left until Christmas.  And yes our homes are decorated, lights are up, the tree is ready, even some presents have been wrapped and might be under the tree.  But have WE prepared ourselves for the Birth of our Lord and Savior?

The Gospel Passage today tells us of a Parable in which many were invited and yet those guests did not attend and even offered excuses to why they couldnt come to the banquet. 
We too are invited to at least 52 Banquets a year.  Do we go?  Or do we make excuses too?
Christmas is also just around the corner and have we prepared our hearts for Him Who came to save us?

In the Epistle reading today, we hear how St. Paul completes his letter to the Church of Epheus with some imagery of a soldier?  This is because he (St. Paul) is reminding us that we fight a war every single day of our life.

When you were younger who did you pretend to be like?  Was it a superhero or a real life person (Father Demetri shares who he used to pretend to be)?   Well, in the Gospel passage today we hear about some people who were not really following the will of God and our Lord needed to correct them.  What happened?  Listen...

Have you ever been told to be quiet before, by a parent, teacher, grandparents, anyone?  We know that it is important to listen to those who are guiding us and that we should also hear more than speak.  Yet in the Gospel Passage today we hear about a man6 who was blind man who didn't keep quiet when a crowd told him to.

In the Gospel Passage today we hear about a blind man who heard a large movement and asked what was going on.   He was told Christ was walking towards the area and the blind man cried out to Him.  The crowd to him to be quiet, but he cried out to Christ even louder.

Today we celebrate many Saints who were martyrs click here This week we also celebrate St Nektarios who is the Patron Saint for those who have illnesses and forms of Cancer.  St. Nektarios also suffered during his life with cancer.  He was also falsely accused by in life by clergy and laity.  Yet, he rose above this things through his devotion and love for God while having patience and forgiveness in his heart.  There was even a movie made about him called "Man of God"

Today we hear the passage of Lazarus and the rich man.  We hear from our Lord what happened then they both fell asleep. Where did each of them go and what does this mean for us?  How come Lazarus' name is mentioned (by the way, Lazarus means "with God's help") and the rich man's is not?

The word "power" or "miracle" is used so often in our vocabulary, power bars, power suit, miracle whip... and this can really bring down the word "power" especially when knowing Who THE Power is in all of Creation.
