  • WTC Presents: Chapterhouse Comics – CCEE 2017
Mr. Brett Podcast moderates for Jim Zub and Ray Fawkes of Chapterhouse Comics at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo 2017.

It's Calgary Expo time again, and that means panels! Brett took on the task of moderating the Chapterhouse Comics panel on the Thursday night of the expo, but the panel turned out a bit different than expected. Fadi Hakim and Kalman Andrasofszky of Chapterhouse Comics wound up missing the panel due to a flight delay. It turned out alright because Jim Zub and Ray Fawkes were around to talk about their Chapterhouse work, Chapterhouse Comics, digital comics, and the Calgary Expo as a whole.
Despite missing two panelists, it's still an engaging and inspiring look at Chapterhouse Comics and the Captain Canuck fueled Chapterverse.
Be sure to check out Jim's book Freelance, currently shipping, and Ray's book Fantomah, which is due out this summer. While you're at it, have a look at the rest of the Chapterhouse Comics line featuring some amazing talent.
Special thanks to the Calgary Expo for hosting such a fantastic panel, and thanks to Jim and Ray for letting us record it for posterity.

  • WTC 182: Knock It Off
Warwolf, another original Liefeld design. Can't believe Marvel copied it with Sabretooth.

There are thousands and thousands of comic book characters created over the years so obviously their will be some that are very similar to each other, but sometimes you can't deny that there's no originality in the design or origin of a character at all.

Will Eisner's The Spirit and the knock off character The Mouthpiece is what got this topic going in our minds.

Brett, Chris and Mo are back with another WTC to discuss these knock off characters. Which ones are most blatant? Which ones are homages? Which ones are better than the original? It's a great discussion.

Is Squadron Supreme a Justice League knock off or something else altogether?

OK, so now the big question. Does this topic just devolve into a big discussion about Rob Liefeld knock off characters? Well... yeah, sorta... Maybe... Okay it does completely... But that's fun too, so give it a listen!

  • WTC 181: Son of Urban Legends
It's fascinating what Urban Legend you'll learn about concerning Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction by listening.

A few years back (yes, years, seriously) We Talk Comics looked at some of the craziest comic book Urban Legends as listed by Comic Book Resources and it was a fun show for both the hosts and listeners, so Chris, Brett and Mo thought "What the H?" and decided it was  time to revisit the idea once more.

In fact, it went so well they recorded 2 shows on it! (The other one to be posted at a later date).

So play along as Mo lists stories that may or may not be true that Chris and Brett try and guess on such subjects as character design changes, who took legal action vs who, why a character has a certain name and much more.

A heck of a good time, we guarantee it!

  • WTC 178: Character Assassination
Why are each of these 2 iconic ocean dwelling heroes such a hard character to hard to like?

A few weeks back Brett, Chris and Mo spent some time talking about their favourite character(s). Well this episode is the opposite end of that.

By popular demand the guys sit down to talk about a character that don't work for them and why that may be. Or maybe more than one character in fact.

From the surprising in Wonder Woman and Wolverine, to the common in the Sub-Mariner and Aquaman to the completely off the wall in... Well, let's leave a few surprises, it's a great discussion on the best of the worst in many ways for your hosts.

  • WTC 177: Isn’t It Bromantic
    Love, exciting and new.

This week's We Talk Comics was recorded on Valentine's day so it made sense for Brett, Chris and Mo to talk some of the great relationships in comic book history.

A comic book love story for adults.

Love is in the air at the guys talk Lois and Clark, the many girlfriends of Spider-Man in Mary Jane, Black Cat and Gwen Stacy, and the wonderful depth and maturity a comic book can show when handled like the Wesley Dodds and Diane Belmont relationship in the underrated 90's classic Sandman Mystery Theatre.

Is this the most real life love story comics ever told between Oliver Queen and Dinah Lance?

So from Frank Miller giving us the tragic Daredevil and Elektra to the equally heart wrenching turns Black Canary and Green Arrow had under Mike Grell to the evolution of Cyclops being with Jean Grey and then Emma Frost there's a bunch of wonderful talk, deep discussions and great laughs on this thought provoking episode.

Consider it a Red Rose from all of us here at We Talk Comics to you, the listeners... Beware the thorns!

    Hobgoblin isn't a romantic guy.

  • WTC 176: Damned if we Don’t
Well I'll be damned, it's a great chat with Andre Miller for you.

Chris Bestie was unable to make this episode of but don't worry because your other We Talk Comics hosts Mr. Brett Podcast and Mo were able to find a more than suitable replacement.

On tap for the show is writer, actor and director Andrew Miller. Andrew's most recent TV credit was as the creator for the CW

    Damned if you do...

supernatural drama The Secret Circle as well as co-executive producer of the Rainn Wilson Fox TV series Backstrom.

But most importantly Andrew Miller has finally fulfilled a long held dream of creating a comic book, Death Be Damned, from Boom! Studios and co-written with The Bens, Ben Acker & Ben Blacker.

A metaphysical story of revenge set in the old west, Andrew tells us of the creation of Death be Damned, the collaborative process of doing a book with 3 writers, comparing writing comics to writing television, the art of Hannah Christenson, and how his time as an actor can be applied to story telling, plus so much more.

Andrew has great behind the scenes stories and is a super nice guy, and we're sure you'll enjoy this episode and please check out Death be Damned.

And we'll talk to you next week.
