  • WTC Presents: Weird Night On The Patio
Well, it had to happen once again because it’s just too much fun and and insane amount of crazy to not do… Beers on the Patio returns.
It’s fairly rare when all 4 We Talk Comics hosts are together in the same city so when they are they like to get together and do something original… or maybe, in this case, just weird.
One of the times the guys decided to get together to eat strange food and drinks. Not only did that create arguably the funniest audio WTC has ever put up but it also led to a big discovery by Keith… he has Celiac Disease!
So Brett, Chris and Mo put their collective heads together, creating almost one full functioning brain between them, and decided let’s get weird food and beer, but Gluten free, and see if any of it is actually any good.
But prior to doing that the guys decided to watch Jaws 3D, in, of course, 3D. Their thoughts on the film are hilarious. They also talk about the then upcoming Chuck Dixon interview, and try and figure out what format this year’s Creator Summit should take, since topping last year would be near impossible.
And of course through it all they put weird shit into their mouths to taste. Check the slideshow to see!
It’s too funny for words, it’s We Talk Comics Weird Night on the Patio!

  • WTC Presents: Andrew Rollins Interviewing Dan Jurgens
As part of the Panel One Kickstarter that was held We Talk Comics offered the chance for a listener to come on the air and interview a well known comic creator.
For those of you not familiar with P1, it’s a community of comic book creators looking to help each other by fostering creativity and awareness, and has a combination of established creators and independent talents involved.
We here at WTC as well as P1 are very grateful to the iconic Dan Jurgens for donating the chance to be interviewed on the air, and to Andrew Rollins for backing the reward and supporting the cause.
Dan, of course, is currently working on Action Comics and Batman Beyond for DC. His resume also includes Spider-Man, Thor, and the legendary Death of Superman comic. Around these parts though he’s likely best known as the creator of Booster Gold.
This is Dan’s 3rd visit with us on WTC, and it’s always a great time, so check it out!

  • WTC Presents: Dave Swartz and Cam Hayden
As part of the Panel One Kickstarter that was held We Talk Comics offered the chance for a listener to come on the air and interview a Panel One member.
For those of you not familiar with P1, it’s a community of comic book creators looking to help each other by fostering creativity and awareness, and has a combination of established creators and independent talents involved.
Dave Swartz, himself a comic creator with the book Atlas: Origins, backed Panel One’s Kickstarter that was created to allow an independent comic show. As his guest on the show he chose Futility artist Cam Hayden to interview.
This is a fun talk as they compare local comic conventions, art techniques, and weird commission requests. Dave and Cam had never met but it’s like they were old friends and just clicked immediately. Heck, WTC host Mo hardly had to say a word at all!
A great time, give it a shot!

  • WTC 163: Chuck Dixon, Get Some
If there’s any argument to be had that We Talk Comics provides the best audio anywhere about comic books and everything related to it we’re going to put that to rest with this episode featuring the unstoppable Chuck Dixon.
In an equally informative and hilarious interview Chuck Dixon opens up no holds barred on way more topics than we could ever hope to list here, but just a sample includes:

    * Bane in the movies and his thoughts about Christopher Nolan’s Batman Films
    * Listening to his father tell war stories and trying to respect that when writing The ‘Nam
    * Adapting Clinton Cash into a graphic novel
    * Being black listed by some comic book publishers
    * The Tim Drake storyline that he wasn’t allowed to do when writing Robin
    * Rob Liefeld (‘Nuff Said)
    * Critical darlings and the respect of his peers
    * Interacting with Sylvester Stallone on about Expendables 2
    * How Stan Lee is still “The Man”
    * Just how he did write so many books in one month
    * Who his favorite Robin is

And that’s just a sample, but if that doesn’t get you excited then you’re fooling yourself, because Chuck Dixon was awesome on this show, and we got a special little treat we’re cooking up with Chuck for down the road, so listen to this first and check out Chuck Dixon’s blog at The Dixonverse to keep up on what he has going on.

  • WTC Special: Damian Willcox & Sam Hester on YYC Comics
In support of the Panel One Kickstarter for an independent comic show We Talk Comics donated the chance to have some air time, and the wonderfully talented sequential artist and graphic recorder Sam Hester took us up on it to talk what’s going on in the YYC.
Sam’s guest on the episode is Damian Wllcox of Dorkboy Comics. He and Sam join regular WTC hosts Mo, Keith, Chris and Brett to discuss Sam’s work at her website the The Drawing Book and what graphic recording is!
Then Damian tells us about guerilla marketing and distribution of his comics over the years, horror stories of publication, working with Shannon Wheeler, the Too Much Coffee Man opera.
And everyone on the show weighs in on Calgary’s burgeoning comic scene compared to other cities and the role of comics in academia.
This is a fun and fascinating discussion and a real treat for us as we learned so much so give it a listen and thanks to everyone for all the support for us and those people following their dreams of making comic books, the best form of storytelling in the world!

  • WTC 162: What’s Up Pitches?
    Well, it had to happen.
We Talk Comics has been on an undeniable role, but when you’re getting 4 guys together to do a podcast you occasionally go off the rails, and this episode does just that.
With the topic of pitching TV shows based on comic books the man who gave us the episode concept, Chris, goes first… and the trouble begins. From there we get a terrible Norm MacDonald impression and constant whining from from Mo, Brett being clearly bored out of his mind and Keith making smart ass comments all the way, so it’s quite the show. All this and the guys are wrapped up talking the topic and it’s only about 25 minutes in! Can you say “The hastily prepared News With Cub Reporter K” anyone?
So give it a listen at your peril, but remember, even a bad WTC has some of the funniest moments you’ll experience all week, that we guarantee you!

  • WTC Special: Whose Script is it Anyway CCEE 2016
    Ah what could have been…
One of the most popular We Talk Comics gimmicks makes it’s return with a new episode of Scriptments, this one recorded in front of a huge crowd live at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo 2016.
The concept is simple, we perform the parts from unmade Hollywood films that have been leaked onto the internet to give an idea of what the movie may have been like if it had actually been produced,
    The scripts this time are:
    Batman vs Superman: Asylum
    Sgt Rock
    Batman Year One
    Green Arrow Supermax.
We didn’t get to the The Crow 2037: A New Age of Gods and Monsters
Joining WTC regular hosts Brett, Chris and Keith on stage is some good friends.
The excellent comic book scribe Ryan Ferrier whose works you can read in D4VE and it’s sequel as well as Hot Damn. Ryan brings a decent Christopher Walken and absolutely awesome Arnold Schwarzenegger imitation to the table.
Jennifer LeBlanc, an actual actress who took part in the previous year’s reading goes slumming again with WTC, and we’re very grateful she did.
And Renegade Arts Entertainment publisher Alexander Finbow also returns. Be on the lookout (listen out?) during the show for Alex’s imitation of a British guy. Also, he brings a British guy imitation to the reading. It’s either because Alex is such a diverse performer, or because Alex is from Great Britain, we’re not really sure which.
All this plus you, the listeners, who were in the audience that day and also get on stage to perform!
So get ready for some serious fun and try the latest from We Talk Comics!

  • WTC 161: WTC Shows Its Age
The 4 hosts of We Talk Comics are old, so we figured why not read some comics as old as they are, exactly as old actually.
Keith gave Brett, Chris and Mo this week’s topic, which was to read and review a comic published in their birth month and reveal it on the show.
This leads to some hilarious observations and coincidences, and some talk on what was acceptable then that’s not now, so give it a go, it’s absolutely sure to entertain.

  • WTC 160: The Pilgrimage Of J.M. DeMatteis
We Talk Comics officially celebrates it’s 5 year anniversary today, August 17, 2016. For such an occasion we are so happy to celebrate it with you on a show very special to hosts Brett, Chris, Keith and Mo.
J.M. DeMatteis is a writer who’s work has mesmerized and touched the hearts and souls of comic book readers around the world since the late 1970’s. In those years he’s pushed the boundaries of what story telling in the comic book medium can be and influenced not only the work of many talented creators who’ve followed him but also has expanded the imaginations of the readers who’ve been enlightened and entertained by these books.
Of course J.M. is still going strong and today joins the show for the first time to talk about his latest creator owned project The Adventures Of Augusta Wind, Vol. 2: The Last Story, as well as the upcoming collected edition of the brilliant Seekers Into The Mystery which will be collected for the first time in a complete volume through Dover Publications, available Jan 18, 2017.
Along the way J.M. DeMatteis not only teaches the guys so much about writing and the world but they all share a great deal of laughs while talking such comics as Brooklyn Dreams, Moonshadow, Blood: A Tale, Scooby Apocalypse and topics like working with Keith Giffen, Glen Barr, Michael Zulli, and Vassilis Gogtzilas among others.
Also discussed is related subjects such as his musical career and his How Many Lifetimes CD from 1997, humor in comics, the Batman Legends Of The Dark Knight #65-58 storyline Going Sane and so much more.
A huge thank you to J.M. DeMatteis for his time.We really believe this may be the best show we’ve ever done because of his generosity, and thanks to all of you for listening to us talk about comics. Here’s to another great 5 years!

  • WTC 159: WTC OST
    Music, music.
    I hear music.
    Music over my head…
Okay, so the latest We Talk Comics isn’t a podcast about the great band King’s X (though that would be awesome) but it is about music. Specifically it’s about the themes, soundtracks and memories associated with comic books in film and TV. And as usual the guys get a little sidetracked onto other TV shows or movies and on their own experience making a feature length film years ago when they were in their 20’s.
A really fun show with lots of great insight, laughs, and unneeded foul language… In other word’s it’s We Talk Comics! Enjoy our OST.
