A beautiful, melancholic movie, we're mostly *Drake voice** in our feelings about our relationships with our moms, what it means to be home, and how they just don't make silk-lined houndstooth beige tweed shackets like they used to. With nothing but a blueberry Truly and a dream, we hoot and holler over this week's cursed Lane's Frame, Beyond the Sea (2004) directed AND starring [the actor who played Hopper in A Bug's Life]. We get into that actor's career, the terrible decisions made in this movie, and what makes a bad biopic. Plus: can Ricky say "faggot"?

Rick's Pick this week is The Devil Wears Prada (VERY 2006) directed by David Frankel. We get into this movie's incredible performances, early 2000s beauty standards, and nightmare assistant jobs. Digressions include grey hair, dick inches, and face blindness. Also, there is a reveal about Ricky that is SO nonsensical and incongruous with everything we know about him that it will shake you to your core. That's all.

Flop! Lane's regretful Frame this week is Animal House (1978) directed by [this tweet may violate rules against hateful conduct.]. We talk about frat culture, gross-out humor, and hooking up in cars with other people nearby. The gain on Ricky's mic is all fucked up in this episode. Who wants to take bets on how quickly he gets to the Todd episodes of Breaking Bad? I give it 10 days.

Part Lane's Frame, part blatant bait at listener engagement, part thirst watch: it's Civil War (2024) directed by Alex Garland. 🚨 We spoil the movie right away 🚨 in our discussion of its politics, the intensity of the action, and the sometimes-clumsy dialogue. After the Memories of Murder episode, we spent some time building out Ricky's Letterboxd, an exercise that led to an hour of Ricky saying, "I liked it!" with more and more of a babytalk voice each time. This is a jank ass episode with mic issues and minimal editing so you've been warned.

This week's Rick's Pick takes us back to 2004 for Michael Moore's inflammatory-yet-quaint documentary on the conservative machinations leading to the Iraq War, Fahrenheit 9/11. A movie that is somehow more fun to talk around than to talk about, we digress into Trump-era politics (ew), our opinion on 9/11 jokes (they're corny), and this movie's influence on YouTube documentarians (also ew and corny). This is probably the best sounding episode yet because now that I have Ricky on cam during our calls he is forced to not fidget around and smack the table and shit.
