Wear Many Hats

Mikey Taylor, you may know him as a pro skater who is retired but I know Mikey in his new era as an entrepreneur mostly known for co-founding Saint Archer Brewery, COMMUNE Capital, and is a Thousand Oaks Council Member. 

I used to watch clips of him back in the day at Nocturnal Skateshop in Philly but now I’m watching clips of him spreading the good word of financial education in my home in NYC. Always stacking clips. 

Me and Mikey aren’t that different when it comes to teaching something we’re interested in such as being financially responsible, getting your money up, and all around growth.

Honestly, sometimes I wonder if I’m boring when I try to spread the good word or maybe I’m just into people who didn’t go to business school to talk about their experiences with money. Maybe it’s the Capricorn in me. 

Mikey has gone viral on social media several times with him talking about real estate, debt, and market crashes but when are we going to see him start dancing on main.

Serge Neborak is the founder of Drink More Water.

Drink More Water is a Downtown New York fashion brand that Serge created by being inspired by art that excites him and the micro celebs that surround him. 

Serge has had fashion shows that feature friends and guests of the show such as Jean Luc and Shallowhalo and his collections have been written up in online publications such as Nylon from friend and guest of the show, Sophia June.

I met Serge at X Pizza where he had his fight night series, battle for downtown and “The Artist Series” and I saw it in Serge that he really puts on for his friends.

The font he uses for all the flyers for Drink More Water is the decals you see on the windows for cars.

Sid Simons is a musician.

I first heard of Sid when he was in his band Girlskin where my friend Ruby played violin in so of course I would support and go check it out for myself.

Girlskin was such a New York band that I loved listening to. Reminded me of all those Patti Smith books I used to read before moving to NYC but without shooting up of course. This isn’t another Sid and Nancy story so piss off! Berlin is still my favorite venue in the East Village where I would find all my favorite local bands and of course anything Jesse Malin touches that supports the underground New York scene.

As time went on things changed but Sid always remained a musician. Now going solo I had to see for myself. Sid Simons crushing it with opening up for Franz Ferdinand, looks good in a blazer, this is all reminding me of the MTV days.

Andrew Yung is a diva that I enjoy talking with out and about on the streets of NYC. Andrew has stories that are filled with laughter, good food and memories.

When I met Andrew he was showing me what he was working on which was keychains for his brand, Pintrill. Where he also does the marketing and e-commerce for. Finding out that Andrew is the co-founder of Pintrill, I wish I met him during my days of going to streetwear trade shows such as Agenda.

I met Andrew at one of my favorite parks in Bedstuy, Brooklyn — Herbert Von King Park where we bonded on food, reality TV, and the Asian Diaspora all which happened on the 4th of July with a bunch of other like minded asians who enjoyed grilling and shitting on America. Although Andrew is from Toronto, Canadians are very nice. I wonder if Andrew is going to see Drake on tour.

Noel Mercado is an artist.

I first met Noel back in Philly with friend Zak Parsons from Four Finger Press and Kyle of Smalldosesdaily and vibed on streetwear, photography, and music.

Then we caught up in Brooklyn. Always a good time when we ran into each other at a club and was talking about Contax pics.

Fastforward years later, I spent the day in two of my not so secret favorite neighborhoods, the West Village and SoHo pretending that I’m someone I’m not but I ain’t shit and I turned to my left and I see my favorite furniture company, USM Modular Furniture collaborated with a name I definitely know. I had to tell someone immediately and friend Ryan Gendron was right behind me and I broke the news. Went inside, made a TikTok and bought Noel’s whole collection straight cash.

Now my house is looking like a mansion, I told you I got it like that.

Alex Hao is a photographer.

Alex also works as the social media marketing lead for Notion.

I met Alex through a Melissa Seah studio session that was connected via Twitter. I didn’t know what to expect. I met a handful of creatives that work in the tech space at an incubator hub in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan. We went around the room sharing our ideas like an AA meeting talking about how obsessed we are with our side projects. Typical rehab behavior. We were all impressed with each other's ideas, words of affirmations and feedback that we decided to connect afterwards. 

I shared the Wear Many Hats show and luckily I was able to have one of my favorites who shared to come on the show. I was impressed by Alex’s photography. Even though I shoot film, Alex brought digital back. Digital never left.

Joel Eel and Leevisa are musicians. If you want to go deeper, they are both music producers and composers. 

Joel Eel runs Perpetual Care Club with Leevisa as the co-operator. A music label that puts out beautiful releases and designs that when a piece comes out, Joel sends me a CD dripped in beautiful artwork. 

Yes, Joel is a designer and I feel like The Other Child.

Matt King is a designer and art director based in Brooklyn, NY.

Matt has been the design lead at Squarespace since 2019 but he has worked on various projects such as design art books for homies, posters for Neighborhood Watch and has worked at many branding agencies before.

But the past is the past and here we are in the present. Where me and Matt met via IG through various multiple friends. Same circles. NYC is small if you think about it and I just feel like I’m intervening in this particular part in time through our art practice. Matt is now a friend of the show and shares with me a bunch of homies that should come on the show. None of them bit.

Me and Matt met up at Allied Tattoo so I could photograph Matt in front of Commercial Type’s new billboard produced by Dahsar in Bushwick. Then we got brunch at Win Son, shoot the shit and learned more about each other.
