Jackie shares her thoughts on the UX considerations you should take into account when building sites, and how you can incorporate those considerations into your process. If you're worried your UX promises are a bit empty, listen to this episode of PressThis and up your UX game now!"
"For those of us building and optimizing websites, we often fret over how we're going to convince visitors to take an action that drives value. We tweak designs and messages to get visitors to complete an eCommerce checkout, fill out a lead form, or view more pages to drive more ad revenue. Did you know that you can also drive substantial value by convincing visitors to do nothing at all? In this episode of PressThis we explore how you can embrace the concept of un-conversion rate optimization to reduce cancels, alleviate refund requests, reduce your support costs, and any number of other ways to encourage valuable inaction. If you're focusing all your time on the normal aspects of CRO, you're missing out on huge ways to grow. Quit leaving money on the table, and listen to this episode of PressThis now!"

  • Blocking Googlebot-News And Bing & Yahoo Rankings
Researchers at MIT have found a way to make graphene with fewer wrinkles, and to iron out the wrinkles that do appear. They found each wafer exhibited uniform performance, meaning that electrons flowed freely across each wafer, at similar speeds, even across previously wrinkled regions. Credit: Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Glenn Gabe noticed that if you try to block Google from showing your news stories in just Google News by blocking Googlebot-News, it no longer works. So if you want to follow the old advice (I do not see new advice) to block Google News, you can no longer use the feature to block Googlebot-News. Just to be clear, this is specific to using noindex for Googlebot-News. Russ Jones from Moz did a Twitter poll asking if you report rankings related to Bing and Yahoo to your clients and stakeholders. With almost 900 responses, 86% said they do not, while only 14% said they do. Joy Hawkins posted in the Local Search Forums that she is now seeing, sometimes, a new delivery truck icon in some local panels in the Google mobile results. When you click on that delivery truck icon or the the text on the same line, it will show you where that business serves outside of the primary location listed.

  • How Plantsnap Turns App Users Into Citizen Scientists And Rockets Retention Rates
“Retention is the new acquisition” is the mindset that has allowed Eric Ralls, Founder & CEO of PlantSnap, to turn his app — which allows users to capture an image of a plant or flower and identify it within seconds — into a habit for its 33 million users and counting. Plantsnap doesn’t just encourage nature lovers. It has inspired users to be a community of citizen scientists, using the app to feed into projects and initiatives to educate about global warming and monitor its impact. I chat with Eric about his creative campaigns (one that used perfect timing and precise personalization to increase retention rates by 61%) and the creative spark that gave him the idea for his app — and others coming in the pipeline. We also discuss AI, the innovation he has merged with his love for our planet, and get an update on his StartEngine crowdfunding campaign (you can get involved here) to build similar apps and grow their team.
