Molly Arbuthnott is a teacher, editor and academic from Perthshire in Scotland. She is passionate about the promotion of children’s literature. With a solid understanding of literature and the ability to read, she believes you can take on the world.
She uses her experiences from life as inspiration for her writing. Teaming up with four fantastic illustrators has helped her to breathe life into the stories. Each story is loosely based on family or friends who have been important in her life whilst also trying to tell stories in an honest and gentle way, singing praise to the things we must celebrate in our world. Teaching children to look out for others, work as a team and not be afraid of doing the right thing that is important. Such lessons might then filter through and be reflected in the way we live in the magical world around us.
Each book teams up with the charity which is associated with the theme of the book in some way. Part of the profits from the book sales are then donated to the designated charities.
Possessing an affinity for the world of books, Molly often finds herself at bookstores, libraries, schools and book festivals throughout the UK, sharing interactive and engaging writing and storytelling workshops. Her, podcast ‘My Favourite Books,’ engages both young and not so young to chat about common book interests.
Molly is keen to ensure young minds through smart innovation see nature in its most natural format and once they have seen that natural beauty the world has to offer, then right from an early age they will start to understand how important it is to protect earth’s delicate balance, plus respect and appreciate it more. Some of her books open this burning emotion of hers to young kids to explore and contemplate.
The world of academia Is at the heart and soul of this young Scottish woman’s life, she has taught in Italy, Africa as well as the UK. Molly has several degrees from prestigious universities like St Andrew’s in Scotland and Cambridge in England, she’s recently completed a M.Ed. in Children’s Literature from Glasgow University.

This is the latest children’s book Molly has put out and as the title alludes to it’s all about an extraordinary duckling called Eddie. Eddie has different characteristics to him which puts him aside from his other brothers and sisters in the brood, for a start he didn’t have the lightening bolt of brown courage that every duck had encrusted on their heads. Eddie struggled to keep up with his siblings in a whole host of mannerisms particularly being courageous, however an encounter with a ferocious hawk changed matters considerably as suddenly in his panic he began to produce in conjunction with his feathers a beautiful musical tone. All the other animals around the pond were taken aback with Eddie’s musical performance even the hawk was put off his stride. Eddie’s musical escapade had saved not only his family but all the other animals nearby from a predatory attack. The illustrations that accompany the story are bright, vivid and bold and enhance the storyline wonderfully. I love the animals playing the various musical instruments especially the beaver playing the grand piano. Clearly Eddie has found his forte.
Well done Molly on delivering another amazing story backed up with imaginary illustrations.
A story about never giving up for things always turn out all right in the end.

Oscar the London Cat
One of the Oscar and Friends Series
Oscar is an adventurous Siamese cat whose curiosity can at times get him into all sorts of entanglements. In this book Oscar and Mercy, his close companion who accompanies him on several exciting exploits throughout the series find themselves caught up in changing of the guard routines in London, a far cry from their lives on the ferry boat back home in Scotland. Oscar and Mercy’s decision to curl-up for the night in Captain James’ Bearskin hat brings them to London. Read the story of how the two cats lead the Queen’s Guard and meet the Queen. A great story that captures the long and proud military tradition that is the Queen’s Guard. The illustrations wonderfully enrich the story.
