Everyone loves Elephants!100 magnificent Indian Elephants are migrating across the USA to share their story with the world. Ruth Ganesh is a member of The CoExistence Collective, Trustee of Elephant Family USA, and co-founder of the environmental arts body: Platform Earth. She joins us to share her love of these magnificent, gentle giants and to detail the life size exhibit of replica elephants making its way across the nation. First stop, Newport RI along the Cliff Walk through early September, perfect timing for the Ocean State! This is a public Installation by The Coexistence Collective and curated by Art & Newport. The proceeds will go to Save the Bay, working to remove invasive weeds from local salt marshes in order to help restore the salt marsh sparrow population. Visitors will be able to get close to and touch 100 life-size sculptures of adult and baby Indian elephants, made out of lantana camara, one of the world’s top invasive weeds put to good use. Ruth and the Elephant Family hope visitors will learn more about how important it is for animals and humans to negotiate shared space, as more places become uninhabitable for both, owing to direct human destruction and the impacts of human-caused climate change.
