This week I tried to use expand my vocal melodies and use more guitar. Mixing the two is something I'm getting used to. I also added some organic cymbal hits that I recorded. Trying to dabble in several areas - recording drums being one of them. I recently ordered a drum mic set to try out, so we'll see how that unfolds as the year continues.

Thank you to the Friendly Sample Challenge Crew for your help with this one. I usually start and end songs in strange ways, and you all always come through! The song started simply on the KOII and MiniNova while I was talking to some friends - added in your samples and some vocals, and the tone of what I was doing shifted completely. Guitar was last. Wonky beat per-usual. Self-critical lyrics, you know my formula by now.

It works inversely when the air in the drum moves to create an electrical signal like a microphone would. Maybe you knew that, but my mind was f*cking BLOWN.

This is in 17 split into 4 beats (typically 5+4+4+4) and also with an accent on every 4th pulse. By either locking into the hi-hats or kick/snare you can dance to this in two different grooves in "4"

This weeks weekly beats continues the story of Teto and the AI.

This is a prequel before they are free of the dream controlling AI.

The concept is that Teto is trapped in the dream controlling AI, not sure what's real and if she can or should wake up.

Plugins used are:

Pianoteq for the piano

U-He Repro 5 for the synths

Sublab for the sub bass

Modern and Massive for the drums

Synth V Teto for the vocals

Arturia Augmented woodwind for the flutes

Evoke with some automation provides the corrupted vocal sounds as well as some Bitwig vocoder.

I wanted to evoke a sense of unsettled rootlessness for the A section so for the chords it's G, C, Bb, Ab which isn't really in any key, but probably closest to C Mixolydian

The B section then pivots to C Dorian to give it a darker and more melancholic feel.

Having fun with the M8 and the Töörö, I am starting to get the hang out of using external resampled synths in the M8. I compose mainly in the M8 and once I have the structure switch some instrument to external and start messing with its knobs until something that I like comes up. Eventually I want to try to modulate live, but one step at a time.
