Oh boy, this weeks school of song assignment was super hard. You had to listen to one of three songs, and then construct a melody around one of them and make a new song, and use near rhymes... without making a version of that song. I couldn't swing that entire assignment. I didn't use a single near rhyme. I did start with trying to build something around Tom Petty's You don't know how it feels. But with my limited composing skill I couldn't get anything in that vein, so I tried to make a melody and then write a song to go with it.

And this is what I got. Which is not at all like Tom Petty. But I made something. I'm gonna try it again later, and try to deconstruct a song and make my own version in that genre. I learned a lot.

it was so hard. and of course there are things I would change or re-sing, but I like my overall concept, things need a bit of tigthening up.

(Hotel del Luna reference, but I made the hotel not a good place, but that's debatable if you seen the show, because for some there is no escape)

Week 34.."My House"

Haven't been present here so I wont act like I have, but I got motivated to start early in the week on a new song and pushed myself to make it before the deadline so I could share something because its been awhile. Surprisingly my song turned out how I wanted it to and it was super fun making after I laid a lot of ground work down. I started Wednesday and finished Saturday afternoon. I still think the bass might be too loud even though its intention, but I have two fans on in my studio since its hot and its hard to master. I need fresh ears but I hope this is done.

In other news I've been doing a lot of DJing in my studio. I have 10 or so hours of mixes. Its a lot of fun, I have been going live on TikTok mainly and helps me keep growing and reaching new audiences. Its keeping me positive. A suite in 3 parts.

I had a narrative running in my head while I was making this.

I started playing with the hypersynths new waveforms and found the pad. I played with a little light melody over it and it felt like melody was calling out to someone. I paired the lead with a theremin lead and panned them a little and it felt full. Like they were meant to meet. I dropped the drums and bass and give the two a moment to duet, then bring the drums back in with a little more speed. Melody becomes faster, a little frantic, the theremin follows and duets once again. The drums fall away, but in place of the calm of the last duet, unease fills and the drums return with more intensity. Danger arrives and our leads fall silent. Theremin lead finds the courage first and the chip lead follows. Their duet drowns out the danger and the world falls away again, leaving our two instruments to dance.

I'm happy with the way it came out. It feels very narrative instead of just being groovy.
