Decided to try some weirdness again on the M8. FM drone with a wubby modulated filter in place of percussion. Some FM bass because FM bass is love, FM bass is life. A random-panned robo-voice because I haven't done one of those in a while. And a sample from a well-known old presidential speech as garnish.

It was originally at 120 BPM but 100 BPM sounds more dramatic.

Hope everybody's doing fine. Things are getting VERY hot in France once again, so, needed a low energy project. It was really inspired by a song I love from the Vtubber Mori Calliope, "End of a Life" which is very important for me and make me cry a lot every time.

So I wanted to make something one can rap on, around piano and bass. It's really a try on how to make less to give space for a singer or a rapper, because I started music on computer really wanting to compose rap beats but never actually got on the works because I'm feeling really overwhelmed on how much I need to learn for that (how to be an essentialist basically, making great beats with the least of things, and also music production which is terrifying) but here's my first take at it !

(and if you want to take it and rap on it for a WB, feel free :DD maybe I'll do it at some point)

› notes‹ notesThis one began with me showing the OP-1 field to my partners father. He's not a musician by any means, but he worked as a roadie for a couple of years and has always loved music and instruments. I made him enter random notes to sequence drums, and he tweaked the CWO on the drumloop. He also played some bass sounds and a string pad thing. Lastly he picked a sound and a chord for the arp thing, which became the basis for this track. It's the thing you hear right from the start, though the original version was an octave up and twice as fast.

When we got back home I transfered everything into M8 to remix it, and also set a goal to use at least a little of each layer from the original OP-1f recordings. I really liked the gritty vibe of that arp sound. It took some trial and error to figure out where to take it from there, but it grew into a shape eventually.

Lots of elements have a randomness factor: randomised panning, randomised sample slice selection, randomised arps, etc. The M8 random name generator came up with the title, which ended up fitting the song and idea behind it pretty well.

Added some mastering in Logic like I always do. Next to the usual EQ and level tweaks, I went for a bit of extra widening and Fors Sala for extra reverb. (Though I must've been half asleep already because this one is a bit lower in volume than usual..)

And in case you were wondering: the one line story at the top is true.

Another rushed week, but luckily I was able to break up production sessions into multiple days so it didn't feel as much of a grind. I've been listening to a lot of Porter Robinson recently, and this one's a little inspired by his sound design. I didn't explore any major new production techniques this week, though - mostly just some tried experiments with builds and layering. I tried a thing where I layered the saw chords in the final chorus with a power chord in the WAV-PARAPHONIC mode of the macrosynth -- don't know if it adds a ton, but it was fun to try :)

I felt like I could have kept going with developing the sections of this track. For a long time this year, I would pick up the M8 and feel like I was pulling teeth making arrangement and mixing decisions when making a song. And with this one, it's like I just had kind of a stream of ideas flowing. It's Sunday afternoon and there's no time, but I'm excited to see how things go in the next few months.

Hello everyone! Happy Father's Day. This was more ambientish speedtrash - this has been super liberating and fun. I don't know if it's any good, but I also don't really care! I'm having fun and it feels expressive and that's all that really matters to me.

I had a conversation with a good old friend today, and it would be too much to try to summarize here, but at a certain point he was looking to me for advice on successfully putting himself and his art out there. Part of what he's struggling with (as I understood it) was how to put things out there and winsomely connect with people when he consistently feels unlikable, or like a pariah (a word he specifically used). This really resonated with me, and I feel like I've struggled in many similar ways. I did my best to express to him that I don't think he's a pariah - he's not perfect, but no one is. I care for him, and I think many others do as well, and I'm eager to hear what he has to say. He doesn't (and I don't) have to inhabit that role to protect himself before anyone else can put him down. It was a good call, and it was a good chance for me to share something I've been starting to believe myself. Anyways, that was bouncing around the ol' noggin when I came up with this, so I decided they're connected!

Anyways, hope you enjoy! Arp/bass are two simple modular patches, that fifth pad is the TEO-5, the lead is m8 macrosynth, and the drums are just some samples. I did some of my normal m8 ambient goofery to step on it some. Have a great week, friends! We're almost halfway there!
