Another week that took a complete u-turn, started with making an industrial track using samples form an old sample cd, however things went in a lush direction from there and ended up with this.  The only thing that remained was the first vocal sample, which really does not have an industrial vibe to it, despite being on an industrial techno sample cd.  Have a wonderful week everyone!

Working Title – Interlude: Crazy 11

A fun experiment to coincide with my rhythm theory panel at next week's MAGWest.

This entire track is in 11 with two separate grooves that imitate the feeling of 4. The first is sliced off 12/8 feel written as 3+3+3+2 or 6+5. The second takes the 16th note subdivisions to make a more natural feeling 4/4 groove but with off-kilter phrasing.

Also I wrote it in Amiga cause I knew I could do it quick and easy lol

Hi there!  Thank you so much for your kind words and support last week.  It was awesome to read and not feel so alone with everything. Listening to music was the best distraction. 

The MRI itself wasn’t the worst but egh I hope I don’t have to do another anytime soon. I did get to take a peek of the results but they’re in medical terms and all that fun stuff so I’m patiently waiting for Tuesday’s appointment to get the full explanation.  Fingers, toes and beard crossed. \m/

The afib was still part of the band this week and made an appearance this morning as well. 

So today’s noodle is inspired by its energy zapping qualities and also hospital gowns. We have break dancing robots but not a gown technology that doesn’t let your bootay hang out? C’mon! 

I looked like a crazy person clutching my phone and loose tie to keep things.. cinched.. er… private :o

On that note…

This week's back on the PureSalem Mendiola, but with a much slower, more intuitive piece. I'd started with a two-note figure (the first one you hear) in which the three subsequent iterations increase the time between the notes. Slightly, but it's a deliberate slowing-down as a variation. Then I worked around that. Some responses made room for the slower iteration, and some remained time-consistent. Other sections emphasize some simple chord progressions, as a kind of release to the tension-building of the rests. It seems to work!

Three tracks of PureSalem into the UA Volt. Left channel is the neck pickup; right channel is the bridge pickup, and a line using both pickups is panned center. (That one also gets the "vintage" circuit of the UA Volt.) There's a bit of convolution reverb send, and the usual compression/eq/limiter on the stereo.

The title comes from a coast-to-coast long-distance cycling route in England, part of which is Route 658. (I've not ridden it, but I'd like to.)

Little experimental thing. 3 Saw oscillators with a filter lfo attached to each which speed is modulated by the note value (higher notes wobble faster than slower ones) with additions to a slight distortion to the bass voice, delay on the middle one and more reverb on the lead note.

Let's do some orchestral metal.

Picture is of Warner Hall, the new home of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Dr Frog and I went for Sleeping Beauty on her birthday.

I was on vacation for most of the week and didn't get to start until Friday night. I still had Speedwhistle stuff in mind though, and wanted to do more along those lines. I laid down some initial parts and had a...wait a minute, this is a theme from a classical piece. I hummed it too Doctor Frog, and she recognized it....but couldn't name it. Took a while and some searching, but eventually found that the theme is most recognizably from Bizet - L'Arlésienne Suite no. 1. However, the melody itself is a traditional epiphany carol called March of the Kings. So I leaned into it and used it properly. For this week it was sort of nice to take the melody pressure off and work with something already established.

I was initially thinking of speedwhistle, but soprano recorder didn't fit. Ended up using tenor recorder for the mellower sound. The more freeform guitar solo section is something I've always wanted to try - it's a recording with a two beat delay, so it's essentially a duet with myself. It's something that Brian May did a lot of - I listened to A Night at the Opera while driving home from vacation, and it made me think I should work it into this week's track. It's maybe a little long and indulgent, but I had fun :) Of course, that could also describe the track as a whole, so at least I’m consistent :)

Hi guys ! Much like last week, I took time to play games and rest because of a rough mental state. I was really pissed off by last week's submission because I gave it no heart, it was mechanical rush and boredom so it felt so bad posting it.

This week I tried at least to have some fun, so I tried to replicate stuff from a song I listened a lot during this week. SO HERE I WAS, TRYING KPOP ? (I really don't listen to Kpop so it was just random to go on these grounds...) Of course without the slightest idea or experience. I also knew Kpop was a lot about producing and this is something I don't do (because...time & zero knowledge, obviousely) but I mean... Why shouldn't I right ?

So I tried, and... It's not good by the slightest but there are some good ideas in there, some realisations about workflow also (about pitching and trying sampling that I've never tried apart from the Weekly Sample Project) so it was about trying stuff ! But it's ok, I had to rest, I forgive my laziness and I'll try to do better next week ! (I probably won't but it's also ok)
