  • Week 28 - HoolieBrown - Jareth's Hope
Rewatched Labyrinth - the Goblin King wouldn't have given up so easily - thought he would ponder how to get Sarah back in his clutches again.  Def inspired by Bowie and a bit of Jim Morrison here - Glad to be back on the mic.  I am testing some unreleased hardware and working out the kinks.  While tracking out of the M8 I didn't hear that I was losing bits occasionally so the tempo is a little squiggly - only egregious place was after the arp breakdown - I cut it to final chorus - dramatic but rickety segway.

  • Week 28 - franky - Pump It Up
    "Pump it Up"
Just passing through. Saw Chris Lake at Navy Pier on Friday and it kicked up some motivation to just block out everything and make a track again. Well kinda, I dont think this is finished but I put a lot of time into it within the past 12 hours and jammed this which is great because I want the jammy thing lol.
Lucky I can make it to the upload to share it with you all.
Have a great week, mad props to all of you with your streaks.
    Till next time..

  • Week 28 - Minnamari - Oikea vasen
Sunmer holiday leaves its mark - i find myself swept into the family life and realize its sunday and i haven't recorded a track.
So, here is what i can muster up right now, the singing i do every evening with the little one. This is a lullaby i sang to my child with the fan adding its hum in the background.
She seems to prefer this simple song, instead of the more elaborate ones. Understandable - simplicity is more soothing than too much complexity. The whole idea of this song is to sing in rhythm with the steps taken back and forth while rocking..with some sweet stuff added in with the steps. That's it.
I actually really enjoy the fan in the background when i sing lullabies. It adds a gentle hum that the singing can blend into. Like a duet with the fan.

    Oikea vasen, oikea vasen
    Rakas pikku kulta
    Oika vasen, oikea vasen
    Kauniita unia
    Oikea vasen, oikea vasen
    Rakas pikku kulta
    Oikea vasen, oikea vasen
    Pieni mutta mahtava
    Oikea vasen, oikea vasen
    Rakas pieni kulta
    Oikea vasen, oikea vasen
    Kauniita unia

  • Week 28 - NickLong - Heat Dome
This weeks Weekly Beats is a bit of a mashup.
I was going to write another vocaloid J Pop track using the Royal Road progression then started to go in a bit more of a Trance direction, but then I got distracted by seeing if I could remember how to make a techno rumble.(turns out I could) and so it ended up as a bit of a techno trance, pop hybrid.
No restrictions on gear this week so I'm using Dune 3 for keys and bass, Repro for Keys, Hive for the riser.  Roland TB303 for the Acid.
Percussion is Bitwig's built in 808 and 909 kits + Kick 3 for the thumpy stuff + a lovely bit of shaker from Skaka.
I'm rubbish at EQing so I tried getting Sonible smart EQ4 this week and I think it's made a positive impact in having a balanced frequency range.
The track is pretty simple and didn't take long to write, but techo is a bit more of a "technical genre" in that it has a formula that's been perfected to the point that most tracks you hear sound massive so I think you have to put the work in so that it doesn't sound weak.
That did lead to me putting far more effort in to mixing and mastering than I usually do.
The track has been very influenced by the hot weather and trance has a history of sun / heat related track names so it's called Heat Dome after
the weather phenomenon which is causing the current European heat wave.

  • Week 28 - levelcapybara - -{shaved ice}-
    › flavor text‹ flavor text
Narrator: "During their travels, Flower Girl, Moon Dude and the Necromancer journey to Antarctica, the planet's last remaining polar ice cap and only native source of water. Once a mighty continent, Antarctica wanes as the planet's denizens mine the permafrosts for hydration."
Moon Dude: *sighs* "We're gonna need a whole lotta shaving cream."
    Flower Girl: "?"
Sometimes Moon Dude just really wants shaved ice.
    Happy Week 28 everybody!
