  • Week 28 - friendlyperiscope - bread and plucks
the bread is a four on the floor, plucks are plucks and a good helping of effects for flavour and some interest.
live as usual, thought i wouldn't record anything this week, then did, lost the recording as is somewhat tradition and finally re-recorded this version.  bass lines, melodies and regular chords, who are they?!  having fun making these though.  (and still learning the piano, but somehow that's quite a separate activity.)

  • Week 28 - Leo - Keep Up
Quick lazy sunday beat. The main phrase is alternating between one bar of 4/4 and one of 7/8 (or just one large 15/8), I think that makes this my first odd-meter Weeklybeat. Skipping that last 8th note gives me the feeling of trying to keep up in a race and holding on for dear life while constantly behind.

  • Week 28 - dadboy - Middle
The speediest of speedtrash - tried a few things but was starting to overthink it, but I finished this just in the nick of time (technically a few hours before the deadline but I have to go work weeeeee). Simple, a lil melancholy and brooding, both ambient and a lil synthwave-ish (just a little). All M8!

  • Week 28 - Dank Receptor - Fruity Sox
Too hot to work in the studio this week. Managed to sweat out a quick defMON jam, still.
    Some reflections:
    - Had fun exploring drum sounds
    - More timing lessons
    - Set up the C64U and defMON to use two SIDs (8580 & 6581), so the bass is slightly panned to the right and the rest slightly to the left
    - Still only ended up using three tracks, but then the setup is ready for six tracks later
    - Compressing hard in post yields massive amounts of noise :D
    - Live tweaking is a bit clumsy
Recorded live to stereo through a Mackie. Slightly mastered in Ableton.
Fun times in the heat. Take care, thanks for listening!

  • Week 28 - Daisy - Andalusian
"Andalusia is the southernmost autonomous community in Peninsular Spain, located in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, in southwestern Europe. "
This is a Spanish dance, that just was in my head this week. I thought about calling it Saraband- which in the Baroque dance suits was the required exotic Spanish dance.  This starts with a"reverance" at the beginning where the dancers bow to each other. The heartbeat is in the piano with repeated 16th notes in Octaves and fifths, with an accent at the end of the figure, like a heart missing a beat. The Cello's strident falling 8th note pattern describes the dancers boldly circumnavigating the dance floor. Measure 20-23, the tempo slows as the dancers notice each other-- then the tempo resumes ending with a muted E minor chord as the the lady demures behind her fan.

  • Week 28 - eleventhstage - Self-Defence, Defence Of Self
This is my submission for the Sample Challenge that was held on the WB Discord. I wasn't a sample contributor but I enjoyed this and all kudos to those fine folk.
Made this on the M8 as I always like manipulating samples with that. Started off just slicing various things up and then just leaned into the weird DnB nonsense I like to write.
    Samples are from:
    Kick, Break1 - Mylowhytho
    Claps, Bass2 - Sleepside
    Snare, HiHat - Electronic Tiger
    Shaker - Ralphadalphia
    Break2, Piano - N Ronvaldez
    Bass1 - Endojo
    Bass3 - Dustsucker
    Brass - TheDaeVolta
    Lead(?) - Aideren
    Pad - Janky Jams
    Synth FX - Erickthedude
    Enjoy
