  • Week 28 - Tomavatars - Reboot
    Yooooo!
This week I made my track from a the elements of a live set I played yesterday.
A special live set as it took the shape of a video game I made to control Ableton (like play notes, change root note, scale, instrument chains etc...).
This is not representing the content of the live (as it was very improvized and not composed like this).
    Very fun moment!
I shall share some videos on internet one day.
    Have a nice week!

  • Week 28 - onezero - Atimbia
As an experiment this week, I recorded some sections with a click, others actively ignoring the click, and then turning the click off. This took two sessions early in the week, and on the second night I found myself wanting to play in different meters at different tempi. As a result, the perceptual tempo and the meter will change with different sections, though I think the arrangement of the sections reduces the jarring effect of the changes. They're detectable as changes, as natural as I could make them. Kinda pretty.
On last week's piece, djippy made a comment that suggested turning up the reverb send. I tend to keep it to where I can just tell it's engaged, but I've generally not cranked it in quite a while, and this seemed like a good idea. This time I tracked with it on, and turned it up compared to most weeks. (djippy's comment about bass is also valid, but there isn't bass here.)
Three tracks of PureSalem Mendiola played with fingers, through the JHS Colourbox 10, with the gain way up. I ended up playing more quietly in response. In the mix, there's less clipping than I was hearing at the time, but there's still some coloration. Each channel has a send to a convolution reverb, and the stereo mix gets compression/eq/limiter.
The title is from Mount Atimbia, with an elevation of 654 m.

Scrambling to get ready for the move tomorrow so this was simply a quick effort to keep the streak alive! Looking forward to catching up on listening/commenting on my phone the next couple days while waiting for my stuff to show up at the new place. Have a great week y'all!

  • Week 28 - MAXELL XL3 - getting crazy
The other day I sampled all kinds of cassette junk. Today I stitched some of it together. Hardly any EQ was needed, the original tapes already sounded gloriously low-fi..

really interesting recording, getting into weird territory while the bastl darkmatter is on loan.
standard processing chain in ableton, except with some weird random lfos modulating some of the compression, giving another subtle layer to try and find.
    definitely recommend headphones.

  • Week 28 - Cakes - Eastern Lies
Short week. Super busy again. An MPC sketch again went into Logic so I guess I am falling into a regular workflow. I really like the leads that came out of the session. This could use a longer sequence. I need to figure out how to dial in this bass in the context of the other elements. It's a bit squishy and spilling outside the lines. It makes me want to buy Shaperbox or something like that to see if that would help.

  • Week 28 - mukti - LITTLE MANTIS
This was a quick one because I was busy all week, then at the beach with friends on the weekend, so I quickly built a droney track on Sunday morning. Mixing was okay, but I only used my M8. This is basically just the raw render converted to 320kbps mp3.
The title was randomly generated using the m8, and the picture is one that my sister took of tiny praying mantis a couple weeks ago.
