People say the OP-XY synth engines sound "chiptune-y" so I decided to lean into that and see how buzzy and low-fi I could get them.

I should record some 8-bit drum samples, there's none in the factory drum kits. Oh well. I'm still inordinately proud of that drum loop, it's catchy.

Got really in my head about this one, instead of letting things flow naturally I forced somethings which I feel made for a worse song - BUT I REALLY like the instrumentation and my use of orchestrated samples.

I re-recorded the vocals like an hour and change before the deadline >_>

The song was inspired by a news article about a sword that was found in Turkey by a metal detectorist - from close to the end of the bronze age that was found upright, and the oxidation made it look Jade, so I made up a story about The Jade Warrior who gave up after failing a quest and this is his song :)

I'm proud of a LOT on this track, and not proud of almost as much, I feel I tried too hard on the vocals - which are generally best when I relax and have fun rather than forcing my voice to sound 'cool' but - on to the next one!

A quick trip back to hyperland with a sprinkle of the zipper bass

I said fuck the mix I just want loud again :)

Also liked the balance of the bass section which I wanted more heavy and dark compared to some of my latest tunes, it worked well until I decided to add some more top end and the zipper bass has made its return just to ruin everything. I promise I'll keep it clean next time, maybe ahahah

I hope to mix some of the latest influences into the tracks for this half year, gathering everything learned so far, lets see how it goes! Do you also have some plans for going forward or just going with the flow?

i have no idea what i'm even doing anymore.

everything the past seven weeks has been very first thought, best thought.

not much thought given to lyrics or structure. 

just lay it down and put it out.

i feel like none of it is stuff i'd ever make.

that's a neutral thought.

obviously most of this stuff i'd never make without a project like weekly beats.

but typically i can point to some other creative work and say that's where that came from.

but for nearly two months now, on a sunday afternoon, it's like i turn my brain off and sometime before 8pm there's a new track on my weekly beats page.

again these are all neutral thoughts.

i'm not for it or against it.

just logging it for future me.
