  • Week 27 - scy - Like Clockwork
This week, I had left my Deluge at a friend's place, hundreds of kilometers away, and I've only noticed it hours before the deadline. Thankfully I got a late upload link, but it still meant that I had to produce a track without my usual hardware and workflow.
After trying out Ardour (which I wanted to do for a long time) and getting really frustrated with it, I instead went with FL Studio Mobile on Android, lol. For a mobile app, it's surprisingly capable and, all things considered, easy to use.
I'm certainly not proud of this track, but it's alright, and I made one. That's what counts.

  • Week 27 - squelette - Band in a box
Further experimentation with my homemade samples. With a dash of wavsynth and hypersynth.
Plus it comes with a picture of a totally sober roof I took last weekend

  • Week 26 - laguna - Kicksnare
Ultra simple beat made with Nanoloop while riding the subway. Kudos to all the Nanoloop masters out there (I am not one of them).
I had to render all the tracks (well, all three) and apply some cheap tricks to create the pad. Basically, all the FM melody / percussion is filtered using the drums as modulator, then dumped as audio while passing through my usual delay -> reverb chain, and then repitched +7 / -12 so to build some kind of chord.
Since the rhythmic element is so basic, all the two extra "FX dump tracks" are modulated using tremolo on 16ths and 4ths... I run out of time, so the whole thing is extra basic. I'm using synced delay lines with odd and even values on 16th notes (2 and 5, 3 and 6...) so the echoes create some illusion of background melody, yet the main "bass" is just a 2 bar loop and some variations on the fourth repetition.
Well, basically two bars and lots of "smoke and mirrors". Hoping for better luck next time.
Thanks to all the people listening and commenting, despite my "radio silence". I really have to catch up on the comments.
Lots of love to you, WB family

  • Week 26 - Tomatron.Jones - Frekcle
I'm getting pretty bad at dedicating time to Weekly Beats earlier in the week and have scrambled to finish them a few hours before deadline. I wasn't happy with my track last week that was using Ekcle samples and going for an Ekcle-like sound, which was too busy and noisy. So I re-visited it, aiming for a sparser arrangement with an emphasis on the bass and some accents. It includes a low, rumbling, long-sustain and glidey bass with some synth + toy piano like chords on top of some drum samples. Short and sweet.
    * Drum and synth pad samples from Ekcle Splice pack
    * Synth bass from Ableton bass and samples
    * Synths and pianos from Ableton Wavetable and Ableton piano sounds
    * Transit, Valhalla, Ableton stock plugins
    * Gullfoss + Izotope Elements for master
Total time: 1 hour, 40 minutes

  • Week 26 - squelette - Le retour du comte choculat
What I wanted to finish this week wasn't getting to where I was happy so I messed around with an older project to get it in the finish bin. Not my favorite, it's kinda corny castle type beat but hey, it's done
