  • Week 26 - slipball - Rattle
Having fun this week with a crappy guitar, a cheap USB mic and three chords. Seemed appropriate given that we're halfway through the year. Time to stop learning stuff and just enjoy myself.

  • Week 26 - Coldsushi - Scorch
At first I thought (imma do something crazy bla bla for the half year, then I just made another track as usual, maybe better, less expectation, just consistency).
Back with the m8, not sure what genre this is, I throw 100bpm and said ok lets see, usually I gravitate around 150 cause I like the speed and it plays well with genres I'm more familiar with, but this time I went for something I'm not too familiar with, I think is the delirium from the heatwave (40 degrees, no ac, no fan), can't think straight I can only do things so Scorch came out.
There are some parts that I really like, I believe I'm getting better at leaving more space and pauses, sometimes not even filling the 8 tracks in a row cause it doesn't feel necessary. Also I'm still in this wave of piano I just love the sound of it, and can do everything from atmosphere to bass to lead, so versatile and is a great contrast to the more electronic sounds.
    What do you think??
Render straight from the m8 <3

  • Week 26 - Apticx - Reverb Freeze test
Hey everyone, nothing special this week. Tried some things in ableton and kinda wanted to make a song built around just freezing reverb.
    So thats it
Im kinda sad i didnt make something more spectacular for the halftime mark but i didnt really find any headspace during those 39°C weathers this week. I just hid in my apartment next to the ac and hoped for it to be over.
Hows it going for all of you? Hope nobody had any issues due to the heat.

  • Week 26 - alonemusic - Bringer of Value
This was an utter monster to mix. Far too many things going on and far too many tracks of stuff.. I could probably spend another week just teasing out parts. Even between this sentence and the last one I went back and tweaked a few things...
Anyway.. its been far too hot this week.. so I thought I'd try something a little different, mostly so I didn't have to stay in the 'studio' (bedroom) too long as it was the hottest room in my flat.. I used the ebow I picked up to be a sort of bed of noise and whines, then built more of those over the top for a few minutes, with some synths and such too, then went back and started working over the top, building new parts until.. well.. its ended up like most of my tracks, but at least it had a different start :D I defo wanted to bring a bit of the krautrock/motorik beat to the track as I've been listening to a lot of Neu in the car to work.
Anywho. Wow.. officially half way! I'm off to see Backrooms and get some fresh air before the whole 'second half of the year' starts up..

  • Week 26 - BarristerPlong - Huron-Fal
This is a 'fuck it, we do it live' week for me. I had a chord progression that I loved and felt it deserved more than what I'd been able to do with it this week. So I dragged my pedalboard and my H6 to the studio, shut the door, cranked the volume and shook the walls hoping to get a 1 take doom good enough for a track. This was rushed, and I still haven't gone over all the takes I had, this was the first that I found that was presentable on short notice.
It's okay, it sounds great but with no goal in mind, I more or less played nonsense.
    But more importantly...
HALF WAY BABY! HAPPY WEEK 26!
› Picture Lore‹ Picture LoreBook excerpt|Flight of the Eisenstein
Temeter saw the warriors running towards him, dying on their feet. Figures fell to the mud as their corpses turned to a red broth of fleshy slurry, viscous fluids seeping from the chinks in their power armour. He knew that he had dallied too long, and he shouted with all his might. ‘Close the hatch. Close it!’ The men in the bunker did as he told them, even as he tasted blood in his mouth and felt his skin prickling with budding lesions. The metal door slammed shut and hissed with a pressure seal, locking him out. Temeter hoped they had been quick enough. With luck, they would not have taken any of the virus inside with them. He managed two stumbling steps before he fell, the muscles in his legs singing with agony.
Huron-Fal caught him. ‘I told you to run, you fool.’ The captain flung off his helmet with a final, agonised gesture of defiance. It was useless now, the virus having moved effortlessly through the breather grille and into his lungs. His hand flailed at the metal flank of the Dreadnought and traced a runnel of dark fluid. Even through the pain, Temeter understood. There was a small fracture in the old warrior’s ceramite casing, not enough to have slowed him on the battlefield, but more than the virus needed to reach inside the Dreadnought’s hull and savage the remnants of flesh inside.
    ‘You… lied.’
‘Veteran’s prerogative,’ came the reply. ‘We’ll go together then, shall we?’ Huron-Fal asked, embracing Temeter’s body to him, moving swiftly away from the bunker.
It took every last effort from Temeter to nod. Blinded now, he could feel the tissues of his eyes burning and shrivelling in his head, the soft meat of his lips and tongue dissolving.
Huron-Fal’s systems were on the verge of shut-down as he stumbled to a safe distance, skidding to a halt. ‘This death,’ rasped the voder, ‘this death is ours. We choose it. We deny you your victory.’
With a single burning nerve impulse, the mind of the warrior at the heart of the Dreadnought uncoupled the governor controls on his compact fusion generator and let it overload. For a moment there was a tiny star on the battered plains outside the Choral City, marking two more lives lost within a maelstrom of murder.

  • Week 26 - FardyCakes - The Long March
Another speed trash week unfortunately.  I've been able to start coaxing some other musicians into the new spot to jam and such, but nothing to upload out of that work yet.  Hoping that this "transitional" period between being a bedroom musician to starting a bedroom collective will be fruitful.
