wanted to make something more positive feeling this week. started with some chats with mulkaccino again but no midi exchange this time. i eventually stumbled upon some older clips i had recorded for melodies and chord progressions, who knows how many years back, but i liked the vibe so i started with that (past me saved them with the title 'striving robot'). then some lyrics just came to me so decided to lay it down, likely in part inspired thanks to dreat who had done a song with lyrics recently. so just went with it. learned ableton's take feature some and then just played around from there. reminds me of some early aughts indie electropop rock, like maybe Owl City meets Passion Pit or something. woo youth.

Another attempt at a sunday speedrun, but this time words were pretty tangled up in my brain so I didn't get any lyrics down in time. So here's the instrumental.

I've been listening to a lot of news and interviews about the Democratic Socialists of America, left wing organising more generally, Sarah Stein-Lubranos work on Social Atrophy and the current Social Reproduction Crisis, and a book on how money liberates from dependence on others but also of most of the good influences others have on us, and the general lack of certain frictions in modern life that makes people* feel aimless (*It's me, I am people). And I have feelings about all of these things and my position in the world relative to that. But it's a very heady thing to write about, and way harder to pinpoint the feeling of it, the imagery and impressions that relate to all of this. So this song probably needs to marinate a little longer...

Hey! Continuing on this mutating album/live project I started last week, here with some kind of electro/hip-hop abruptly transforming into a more trance/house type of thing. Not as happy with the final mix as I was last week - beside the sound itself, I feel this part will need more work on arrangements (hence the "rough" tag in the title haha). But I already have some ideas for next weeks, and maybe the week after that so I'll continue to ride that wave :)

Ableton Live and Mini Freak with their powers combined makes... speed trash! Im going to continue the 90's era break beat style through out August as time constraints are not improving. Just like last week I really wanted to expand on this more but time is an evil mistress. Hope you can dig it.

I knocked the bulk of this one out in a 1v1 sample challenge with a friend last Sunday night after turning in my Week 29 homework. We did another dip into his answering machine sample archives. I got lazy this week though and didn't do enough to make this better. The break is an egregiously unchopped Do the Do. The bass was a low effort sample pack dip.

Not much focus this week. Played and ran the sound board for a long live show yesterday and my calves are sore from standing too much.

Spent about an hour throwing this one together. About 20 minutes on patterns, 10 minutes sequencing the patterns together and 30 minutes putzing around on the fxs before I could stand it being done.
