  • Week 25 - XC3N - Interlude II
Another quick interlude on the WB2026 playlist
Hectic week, and I've been working on a vibe coded editor for the DSI Mopho!
You can check it out here
Not surprinsingly, this song features two DSI Mopho tracks, Fors Opal drums, Arturia Melotron, a bunch of different plugins - all done in Ableton Live
OH! I used a new free plugin that's quite nice, too: Annulus!

  • Week 25 - Wisefire - Cookie
Asking the big questions! What would you consider a biscuit and what would you consider a cookie.
And where does the humble digestive fall on that spectrum?
    Co-written by Connor Baxter! He's a stand-up guy!

  • Week 24 - squelette - Uppies please
There's lots of jumping spiders around here.  I had been previously unaware of their existence and as someone who was never a spider fan, I've become a bit obsessed with the jumpers
This being a happy wonky lil track it made me think of their UPPIES.

  • Week 24 - uhhuh_absolutely - Get Busy
First attempt at doing a kinda acid-y bass line with a break. Fun stuff! Would've added a couple more synth lines, time permitting.
Used my modular rack for the bass line and some extra bits of texture. Castor and Pollux through WMD C4RBN for the bass and some bits from MCO mk2. Also added some stuff from the Perkons on top. Originally had a full drum loop from the Perkons, but switched it with the break after pulling it into Ableton. Played some chord stabs on my Minifreak to run through the delay on my modular too.
Hope y'all like it! Summer is almost here.

  • Week 24 - prophisee - The calm that you know
Didn’t get to fully execute on this week’s lyrical idea so we just have a quick rap verse. Was going for a Jekyll/Hyde vibe and only wrote and only made it to Hyde. Ended up working on this a bit past the deadline, newer audio here.

Hop up out of bed and I’m feeling neurotic
Clean my face in the mirror but what I hear is psychotic
    Things are actually irrational
    All that we find valuable
Casual to dedicate your life to pursue capital
Its maddening, so I get erratic and spasm
The odds are stacked and the fact is that
If you try until you die and you might not crack
The top half, won’t grab status
Considered a fanatic to agree with this passage
    I live with suspicion
My intuition is that its a little bit too much risk to sit in this position
Better safe and sound than to look around
And observe despair. Might not be fair but better to suffer in color
Than to be a sucker for the calm that you know
Now its time to go because I’m out of words and the weekly beat is due in 5 minutes

  • Week 24 - Michael Morrow - The Perfect Man
Here's another one take recording, sat at the piano after 11 and a half hours at church on Sunday. I'm taking much longer to get a song started. I'm pretty sure that's because I've become bored with writing songs just because of the good discipline of writing, and I'm searching for the thing I absolutely need to say. I cried this week singing 'The man himself' by Gang of Youths. And I underlined lots of quotes in 'The Screwtape Letters' by C.S. Lewis. I had a long conversations with friends about how hard temptation is, and what it must have been like for Jesus to be tempted like us.
I think I’ve got it figured
What it means to be a man
A man can keep a steady course
    And walk into the wind
A boy will run whichever way
The wind would have him go
But a man can face the wind and still say No
And I will never be the perfect man
I don’t want my life to end up
    Lost upon the way
    I’ll lean into the wind
And I will keep on walking
Just another day within my Father’s plan
Just another day within my Father’s plan
They say there was a day
The Son of God became a man
The day he stood before the court
    And the accusations came
His heart beat like a wild horse
    Makes thunder as it runs
But he kept his voice as silent as a lamb
He showed them how to be a perfect man
They say that he became a man
    At dinner when her tears
Her hands, her hair, were on his feet
    Her perfume in the air
I’m sure he felt the rush of blood
    The pulsing in his veins
The need to take her body in his hands
He learnt just what it feels like to be a man

  • Week 24 - sleepside - Mag Stars
Instrumental hip hop made on a Dirtywave M8. Drums are from Samples from Mars' Private Reserve, bass played by me, Rhodes melody is programmed from samples, the weird rhythm feedback sound is a no-input guitar pedal chain going into a Monotron Duo, and the ringing bell is hitting a singing bowl. Everything else is onboard synths.
This started as a tribute to Ruff Ryders-style production, but strayed pretty quickly from that!
