I've been very busy so it's just mostly a loop with some extra melodies. Hopefully got more time for next week's track though :)

A bit of a disjointed one this week, I think I just need to step away from it now and not miss the deadline.  A nice day outside that I couldn't resist, so this one is mixed outside on the laptop enjoying the fleeting sun, apologize if the mix is too all over the place.

My brother loaned me a little Yamaha acoustic travel guitar, so I goofed around with it and an iPhone mic until I had something I liked. Add in some iOS synths and guitars and I got something that might go somewhere one day. One day, not today... rough mix and in with a few minutes to spare. Time is relentless.

I don't know what happened, it was 11pm and I had nothing, but then, suddenly, there were a lot of words. What they mean, I don't really know. If you have an idea, please tell me.

Tried a few things I learned over the week in the mix. I still feel it could sound clearer, the tracks and frequencies could be better separated, but I can't seem to manage. I seem to always pick synths that are very rich in their own right, which makes it harder to mix everything together without muddying it. Not sure if that's it or if it's something else I'm missing — if you have any hints by all means do let me know :)

But alas, I'm still mixing with in-ears because I keep forgetting my big headphones. I'll try to remember them next week. That might make quite the difference.

Really liked the outro of last week's track, thought of a nice counter melody, sang it into the M8, bombed it, trashed it save for half a second, changed its pitched, upgraded it.

Reused WB #1's colleague's daughter's clarinet improv.

Another track with potential, but time ran out before making it great, again.

Where we're going, we don't need mixing.

My Diary for last week:

Wednesday: wrote a 4-verse poem (‘I asked God for a wave, and he sent me the tide’).

Thursday: re-wrote the poem.

Saturday: took my favourite line from the poem (’Show me where the rain is born and where the thunder hides’) and wrote an entirely new poem, then set it to a tune.

Sunday: Realised the rhythm of my poem would only ever make for a bad tune. Changed the rhythm and wrote a new tune. Wrote it on my guitar, sitting on a bass amp in the storeroom behind the kitchen at church because youth group had the run of the rest of the place.

Songs analysed: 4 Beatles songs, 1 Norah Jones song, 1 Jeff Buckley song.

Psalm I’ve been wrestling with: Psalm 139.

Book that’s had the most impact on me this week: The Screwtape Letters.

I had a nice conversation today with my friend Sabine, and I decided to put my thoughts into this song. I always sing about love and even my internet nickname is horatiuromantic but I am actually not so good at expressing love outside of my songs...

I'm very happy with how the song turned out. I find the melody very catchy and familiar, I'm not sure I stole it from somewhere but please let me know if you recognize it haha. I think the B part is heavily influenced by "it ain't me, babe" by Dylan, but apart from that I don't think it's from anywhere in particular.

I wrote and recorded it in ~6h. It would be nice to put more layers like an organ or voice or an instrumental solo somewhere, but I didn't have time and also I should learn the song better and play it live a few times before putting in more effort on the production..... I think that's a good rule of thumb! Hope you enjoy it!
