Week 18

Goal at start 4/28

Focus on sound selection. Try to think about how the frequency range is filled and whether there is a sense of dimension or flatness.

Also try singing/humming the melody to assess how catchy it is.

End notes 4/30:

I liked the first loop I created, then everything else was a challenge of trying to make the other loops as interesting as the first one. But then just making the other loops as good isn’t enough  because they have to also flow into each other smoothly, so that was a major challenge on this one. I guess it helps to set the bar high with your first loop so you’ll be motivated to match it with the other loops.

Plan for next week:

Continue focus on sound selection plus adding more layers and countermelodies (for practice, not because every song needs complexity). Also focus on sense of space around each sound. Remember to hum the melody to assess its quality.

Yearning to be so foolish again that I wouldn't care to be wiser or calmer, and could just...live...without so much thinking, without so much Yearning.

Another sparse one this week.  This is mostly m8, but decided to hook up my guitar to add a bit to the arrangement. Gotta represent the guitar gang.  Still in the process of moving and will probably be busting my ass to get everything into the new place this weekend.  So, I wanted to try to get something up now before deadline.  I may come back to edit this if my studio space is up and running by Sunday, but if not, I will have to let this one stand.

Wrote this on guitar on Monday and then spent way to long sitting in bed last night on my DirtyWave m8 arrange the synths and drums.  Added some basic rhythm guitar, and this is where we stand for now.

I can never really get a song done unless I just completely turn my brain off. Or if I force myself to make a song. But forcing myself to work always turns up lackluster results.

I didn't notice until like halfway into making this that it sounded a lot like "Eighteen Years", the song I made last week. Oh well... maybe next week I'll just do a chill lofi jam again.
