Woah, week 20 already? Crazy. Another week with not much time for WB. Have spent a large portion of this week with day job and working on a 3 stage festival in July in Melbourne. Also, working on mixing a release for the end of the year so weekly beats is definitely a backseat project atm.

This week's track was built amidst trying to give Maschine another go. I find it really frustrating and unintuitive so I rage quit, went to Ableton and hammered out this soundscape. I'll give Maschine another go I suppose because I don't like being defeated by software.

The walk was calm and silent and the moon was blurred by cloud shapes looking down as the zKnightBros spot a big hole on the ground. It's under a giant tree and they go through it in search for a place to spend the night. It's not too deep and after getting comfortable in the limited space... a humming is heard. One of the zKnightBros is starting a tune to thank and to honor Mother Tree. Shortly after both are jamming in full speed maxhine-backed!

Meditative, sound therapeutic frequency layers mixed with a gated chant of the japaneese Lotus Sutra:

"Nam Myoho Renge Kyo" - "I dedicate my life to the mystical law of cause and effect through sound."

In 1988 the buddhist movement "Nichiren Soshu of Americ" (NSA)" was booming in NYC. In our actual weeklyBeat track re-performed and presented is their Mantra "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo". Also in 1988, two years after beeing founded, Shoko Asahara's buddhist-hinduist japaneese "Aum Shinrikyo" organization had chosen New York as their base for recruitment, before it grew up to 50.000 members in the early 1990s. Who would have guessed that seven years onward, on march 20th 1995, the apcalyptic Aum-cultists would release poisonous Sarin gas within Tokio's subway system, killing 12 people.

My computer is completely dead.

A whole bunch of other things have died too…

I’m talking phone, laptop, 2 fountain pens… everything is breaking and all relatively close to each other.

What was even more frustrating is I spent 4 weeks working on that piece I worked on for Tobi Weiss competition and then my laptop crapped out at last minute… I real need to build in a whole bunch of redundancies…

Let's do something last minute.

Picture is of my great-grandparent's 50th anniversary in 1944.

This was my fallback idea for this week - very little time this week, so I ended up just grabbing the acoustic guitar and Writing Something. Which in this case ended up being Sunday afternoon. Was cleaning up the house and that a melody pop into my head. Ran to grab a guitar and "la-la'd" the first couple of lines. Immediately stopped and figured I should record it on my phone.  Ended up figuring out the structure and melody in one take. (There are perhaps bit of melody that are similar to other songs, but I'm not going to sweat it at this point.)

Lyrics were another matter. Had a few fragments of ideas, but nothing solid. Went to lunch with Dr Frog, and sat down to work after we got back home - hammered these out in about an hour. Recording is one take and one track. (FrankenGuitar is a little softer than my other acoustics, makes that a lot easier). Would have liked a bit more time to clean up the structure and maybe multitrack it, but you can't always get what you want. But as far as finishing a song, I got what I needed.

Thought I would try some ambient, but it went in a totally different direction. Trying to learn more about retro synths and driving them with arpeggiators. This was a bit out of my wheelhouse but a lot of fun.
