  • Week 20 - vimster - Mild
No track last week as I had a cold, but here we have something mild I did in a couple of hours this afternoon. It's been a difficult week to get a tune done, but I'm actually pretty happy with this one for the time it took.

  • Week 20 - BTS - Analog Reflections
I continued my experiments in building tracks with generated MIDI data. I kept it a little bit simpler, and did a little bit of time stretching to the tracks while building out basslines, melodies and pads.
I did a little bit of EQing and mixing, but overall kept the track a bit looser.

  • Week 20 - Sir Bunting - Black Slate
I got the "full minor" 9 note scale again but slightly different. It's not my favorite.. something that I want to figure out are VSTs that say they're panned to the center but were apparently recorded with mics that only let you produce sound that's hard panned. It's so weird how unresponsive the program is here. It thinks panned things are centered and there's no CC10 automation at all either. So I had to mute some stuff that sounded awkward only in one ear

  • Week 20 - Dank Receptor - Mrs. Flameout
This week brings even more fun with FMS. I had a blast bashing out patterns and then jamming and recombining them live. Here is an excerpt from a 20 minute jam, the whole thing was performed with the mGBA emulator and an 8BitDo controller. Recorded to stereo in Audacity, then trimmed down and slightly mastered in Ableton.
Will definitely be making more jams like this. Recommended.
Thanks for listening, peace and love!

  • Week 20 - ModuLoBro - It's Been a Lot
If you're familiar with the Deluge, you know that its creator made the firmware open source a few years ago. With the release of the latest stable version, the dev team held a preset-making contest. This happened last year but I just discovered it this week.
I downloaded the presets and immediately checked out the winner: Mark Young's Saumur Piano. The notes say, "Saumur Piano is a public piano that sits outside all summer next to the Loire. Samples were recorded by hand and used to make the preset."
It sounds much as you'd expect. I used the tuned version of the preset. I love how ambient conversations and dishes clanking can transport one sonically.
Once I loaded it, I just wanted to make something pretty. The other two sounds come from the great Boards of Deluge presets by Krzysztof Stęplowski.
