  • Week 20 - Kedbreak136 - Quiet
I did not have much time this week and did this track on Sunday noon. I enjoyed some good time with friends in a sunny park on Saturday and love the May weather, when it starts getting hot. This makes me want to go to the beach, hence the intro of the sea foley. I added a couple of haws sounds because the local beach where i go to has a lot of hawks, always on the look to steal some food.
I plugged the guitar and did this very simple improv, looking more for textures than interesting melodies or sounds. This was fun, and a good way to do a quick one.

  • Week 20 - scottux - Patch from Scratch on the Super6 leads to nonsense
I did another patch from scratch exercise, this time on the UDO Super 6 desktop, and I kinda went in without much direction in mind, just sorta responding to whatever sounded cool. I think if I had any intention going into it, that was just to use the alternate waveforms, which absolutely lent this a very FM/phase synth sort of sound. I made the loop you hear in the background of this scene, which played as I sculpted the sound, and I think ultimately led to the sorta keys quality it has (the midi loop really wouldn't lend itself to long swells etc, for example).
Anyway, one friend heard the loop and suggested it sounded like "ps2 era in a secluded grove", another "n64 water level vibes", and lastly another friend said it sounded "like an 80s anime when theyre explaining something spiritual", and I was feeling goofy and wrote up a tiny script for a monster battler called Dorkymon.
    Anyway, here's garbage, enjoy.

  • Week 20 - dadboy - Boundary
Another busy week - didn't actually have to work this week but I had a bunch of house stuff to take care of and then family in town. So, more ambient speedtrash it is! I'm having a lot of fun just sampling and resampling and chopping up M8 stuff. Not the most groundbreaking or fancy stuff, but it's relaxing. Hope you are all having a good week!

  • Week 20 - TheIntern - Bloom
Made this one around a bunch of my friends. By the end everyone was moving and grooving. I hope it does the same for you. As always, another week, another beat, I hope whoever listens enjoys. Love me a beat to move too.

  • Week 20 - RajaTheResidentAlien - The WeeklyBEAST Pt. 6
Made a quick instrument using the "Aalto" plugin, then made some change to create a swelling attack on my previous "Kaivo" plugin instrument/preset (go Madrona Labs!), then added a beat scripted using the Tidal Cycles subset of the 'pattrns' language for 'phrases' in Renoise, then automated some reverb changes over the 'master' track(very strange for me, as i don't normally put reverb on the master, only on individual tracks, but this time, what the hey)... thanks to the 'pattrns' scripting, all could get done within just 3 hours today, as i'm on the road (2200 miles driven from Michigan back to California to take care o' some biz, trying so hard to move this blocked/stagnant part of my life forward...)

  • Week 20 - jemmons - CNC
The challenge I set for myself this week was mixing into distortion. Sometimes I want to dirty up a track, but after a week of listening to it pristine, all I can hear when I add grunge are the losses. So this week the very first thing I set up was an Analog Heat at end-of-chain with the not-very-clean Mid Drive circuit engaged. Everything I patched after that, I only heard after already shredded. So I didn’t miss the bits left lying on the floor. The hardest part was keeping mid resonances under control given the amount of boost being applied by the Heat. But I’d definitely do it again. Lots of fun.
On the other side of the Heat was an Octatrack (drums), Digitone (bass), and Analog Four (synthy stuff), everything captured in a single take. I spent the whole time with one hand on a QPER and the other on a crossfader, but I think it came out pretty nice.

  • Week 20 - evanericksonmusic - Dead Guys
    Hi guys,
I initially started this week thinking I was going to do a gimmick of taking 3 old and unfinished projects and combining them to make a silly 3 movement song. Once I got to this song, it clicked right into place and I just wanted it to be its own solid song not tied to some silly idea.
But, this one is kinda silly. I had a lot of fun getting out my Ableton Move again to time stretch different samples of my friends. The main flute-y sound is a recording from one of my old classical tunes sliced up. I have a big folder of recordings from old classical songs I wrote and I throw them into literally every track I submit.
Lots of surprising sound layers throughout this track. I dialed down some of the “bad” sounding elements with EQ, so they are less abrasive. I wanted to keep the spice, but definitely a bit of taming it down makes it sound more blended.
    Hope you enjoy!
