  • Week 19 - dadboy - Fake
I have had negative motivation this week, and was this close to skipping. Burnout is real, and I really wrestled with whether I should skip a week or just make ice soup and do something super generative and ambient. So, here's something super generative and ambient. This was (almost) completely done on the m8, just with a dash of PS1 reverb on the final mix. I did some internal midi goofing with some random chords, with NXT triggering a pluck on those notes, but with a random delay. I then sampled (and resampled and resampled) the results and goofed around with playback and stuff until we got this. I'll say, as much as I was not feeling it this week, I'm actually reasonably satisfied with the end result.

  • Week 19 - MrAtlantis69 - I Want To Be (Left Alone)
A song I actually wrote on the piano for a change, has a latin sounding start and then moves to blues and a rock section. There's a long pause in the middle, I was trying to programme my drum machine in time lol - Enjoy!

  • Week 19 - NickLong - Henzl and the Egg
This week I've gone for an indie vibe, but to mix it up a bit I put it in 7/8.
The theme is an egg being laid then wondering about what life will be like in the outside world before hatching into a bird. Inspired by my son Henry (Henzl) who wanted me to write a song about boiled eggs when asked for a theme. He's not fully satisfied as this is a hatching egg and he thinks the song should be metal.
Compositionally it's very vanilla using the classic sliding an E shaped barre chord around while leaving the E and B strings to ring. I did it on the strat I keep down tuned to D for metal which gave it a bit more depth. If I was being less lazy I'd have put an acoustic on it as well.
    Tech Used
    Bitwig
    Eclipsed Solaria on vocals
Strat mostly middle pickup through Morgan and Misha from Neural DSP
Squire Jazz Bass through Darkglass Ultra
Modern and massive doing a good job of indie drums.
A bit of super plate reverb.
The lead sound I got in the middle and end was from Neural DSP Morgan AC20 and I'm super impressed with how much like a nice amp in the room it sounds even down to the lovely bloom on the note sustain at the outro.
    Lyrics
    Laid down in golden straw
    Warmed by the feather
    I cannot hope to dream
    Of how I'll settle
    The speckled home we made
    Is getting closer
I know the day has come
    To make my own way
    Cracks are forming
    Breaking out
My eyes can see the light
    Legs escaping
    Lungs are breathing
    I'll be taking flight

  • Week 19 - angellis - MMXXVI - XIX
This week is a short one. I recorded a bunch of sounds from my 3 month old daughter vocalizing and used it as a bit of a hook. Ran out of time for the full track concept but you can see the idea of it there.

  • Week 19 - spry - Softer Approach (WB19)
Up late at night with some weird droney resonance.
Spent about 30 minutes writing some patters, about 10 minutes making a structure and another 20 minutes dialing in some FX automations and volume levels. Total work time about 1 hour around 3am on Saturday morning.

  • Week 19 - LeCroqueMonsieur - Disaster Recovery
This week it’s speedtrash (term copyrighted by @dreat and @BurnedOutSun), I had no time with family coming visiting us over the weekend.
Tried to make a mode variation with syncopated bass, got lost in time, ended up scrapping it and moving to just acoustic guitar and electric for solo.

  • Week 19 - XC3N - Syntrx Ride
Got a Syntrx II because reasons o_O
Combination of Syntrx II and Lyra-8, passed through Strymon Bigsky and recorded to Tascam 424 MK II
Recorded in ableton, added a FabFilter R2 Reverb layer and processed the sound a bit further...
When in doubt, just ambient for 5 mins o_O

  • Week 19 - Earp Lug - March of the Millipede
Rough week, kinda blasted this song out as quick as I could. I created a simple beat on my Korg Volca with this note that kind of resonated with a preset that I slightly modified on my MicroKorg when I played the black keys. I played through it a few times, and one time I just sorta hit a song that felt fleshed out and interesting (to me). My wife said it's too simple but I don't really know what I could add to it. I did add some dark MicroKorg pads with a lowpass filter that played beneath the thing. Turned up the resonance and down the cutoff until it created that sort of throat-singing sound. I also re-timed a lot of the notes, but allowed them to still be a little imperfect because I like the aesthetic, but I also want the song to be mostly listenable.
The visuals are comprised of a long clip I recorded on my Sony Handycam HDR-260v of the trinkets and toys we have on this really long series of shelves in our kitchen. I put the footage through my Tachyons+ Psychenizer combined with my L/S/D+ and a Time Base Corrector. I slowed down the glitch footage from 60 FPS to 30 and edited it so the glitches would correspond with the musical beats. I also added little false glitch frames between some of the cuts to make the cuts feel a little more naturally glitchy.
It's now 10:00 PM at night and I still need to pack my bags to leave town at 8:00 AM in the morning, so I hope you like it and sorry if you don't, I'm off now!
