  • Week 18 - waziam - Pass the Time
One thing i dislike about throwing songs together all in a week like this is the lack of opportunity to shelve a song and reset the ears before doing a final mix. I'm sure this will be one I listen back to and find simple things that irritate me, but on the whole it sounds alright.
Been keen for a bit to do more dnb again. Doing this i got a little back into the swing of breaks and have a few ideas i've been nursing, so will probably do more dnb in the coming weeks.
I got a B-Verb rack unit recently which i finally hooked up in the rack. The reverbs on it actually sound great to me, so i put it all over this one.

  • Week 18 - Super_Pig - Break Down The Industry
Robot / Factory music or something. I don't have too much to say for this, I think the breakdown sounds really good. The Drums are all Loops from Damage and the voice recording is me

  • Week 18 - speek - Everything Green
My first submission!  Made in Bitwig, and newly using SFizz and sampled instruments here from Karoryfer - one of their free basses and a free guitar.  Mixing this was really difficult and still not entirely happy with it, even though it's basically just a guitar, bass, organ, and drums, but it's done.  A little bit harsh, but some pleasing bass lines too, I think.  Hope some enjoy it.

  • Week 18 - Cakes - Shadow Cabal
I finessed the MPC thing I abandoned last week into a better place for week 18. It's still very mid. Just gotta keep things moving for week 18.
I bounced the samples from the 8 bar MPC loop to Logic, sequenced, EQ'd, added reverbs + compression there. I also added one little four note lick from Zenology to hopefully add some additional interest. I have trouble manipulating vocals so I fell back on condensing a sampled public domain diatribe into a much smaller clip than originally intended.

  • Week 18 - alonemusic - Wonderfield
Lots of weird new things hidden in this track.
I've been picking up some hardware for a noise performance in about a month, and this features an 'Ovum' which is just a tone generator and a very fun resonator thing called a Wingie2.. I didn't use them much, but they are warbling away in the background.
The rest of the track is my usual mix of things.. I wanted to capture some guitar tones I don't usually go for, and a bit more 'live' that I normally would too.
I also used something called 'compression' on the drums, which is something I forget to do often.. so now you can hear them! Maybe..

  • Week 18 - theagainagain - Driving home from California
I'm in California right now, my gran passed a few months ago, and I'm down here helping pack things up, and I'm absconding with her amazing mid century dresser. It's been an extremely difficult last few days, but I slept in her bed while I was here because it was the only bed available. I was apprehensive to the idea at first, but after a few days, I'm feeling more connected to her. I'm the self appointed family archivist, so I've been gathering all the random boxes of photos, and family photos on the walls. I found a letter her father wrote to her in 1948 about her trip back home to North Dakota for the first time since the war. I found a photo of my 17 year old grandpa the day he was shipping out. They met at a dance while his ship was docked in Seattle for repair after it was hit by a torpedo. I found a picture of her at a different dance, not with my grandpa, spicy, hahaha. Some really amazing family story telling going on.
I started working on this beat earlier in the week before I flew down here from Portland, and spent some time on Friday getting it into a place where I felt it was worth sharing. I think ideally I'd have a more pronounced B part, but for now I'm happy with the results.

  • Week 18 - tarsiidea - Woven Threads
This track is a mashup of three loops I made this week. They were very different styles to start with, but a whole bunch of tweaks here and there and they gelled together way better than I thought they would. Was a fun challenge, and created ideas I wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

  • Week 18 - increment - In Two States
I only had a few hours to spare this week, so picked a different tempo and looked through some violin samples for quick inspiration. Found this cool lick that tickled my fancy, and wrote everything around that.
