  • Week 18 - vimster - _9
I had a load of samples I used to use on the PSP back in the day with LittleGPTracker, this included a clicks and glitch set which I was using here for a nice 2001-style clicks'n'cuts track.

  • Week 18 - alterationx10 - Quiet Place
I tried a new way of processing vocals this week. I used the Ableton "melody to MIDI" feature, then fed that into the Ableton auto-shift plugins. Easy enough to "snap to scale" at that point. I was going for more natural tuning at first, but then it got away from me, haha. I also need to make like a little box with some spare foam panels for my mic so it has a "standard setup" in a fixed spot. I end up recording different parts at different levels, and It's a pain to mix.
I think this is also the WB premier of my Nord Drum 3P. I really like this unit. I had a lot of fun building the drum track up on the hapax this week, and I think the drum track is my favorite part.
The bass synth is the Cascadia doing its bass synth thing, as is the Iridium Core.
I tried to give this one it a more polished mix overall - and also ran it through my new outboard gear. Learned a few cool tips about plugins that help visualizer the stereo field and doing a mono check at the end to make sure the mix hasn't gotten off the rails.
This song was inspired by the (rough) quote from the show Dexter: the truth speaks from a quiet place.
    › Lyrics‹ Lyrics
    the rooster crowed too early
    even though I was awake
    the night had barely started
before the shadows they did break
the sun shined on the mountain
of effort I had to overcome
to break free of these chains and see
all that is yet to come
    I climbed into my closet
    put on my nicest smile
    worn and stained from yesterday
    felt quite out of style
    fell into the dull roar
of the dreary day to day
    doldrums that I've seen before
filled with endless chores, sinking in their weight
I am looking for a quiet place
    it's not far from here
    though I won't arrive today
I am looking for a quiet place
I just know I'll arrive, you see
when the truth starts to speak to me
    as I drifted downwards
from the rumble of my race
    the moon began to whisper
    of a very special place
    truth can speak the loudest
    when you're all alone
with an ear to ground, you can't feel a sound
    and anything can be known
I am looking for a quiet place
it's not too far from here
    though I won't arrive today
I am looking for a quiet place
I just know I'll arrive, you see
when the truth starts to speak to me

  • Week 18 - NineRowBlooms - Nuclear Mira
Bought an expensive fun new toy (Cascadia) and made one of those tracks where you make all the sounds with said toy. Put together on the M8. Nice to be back after a couple of weeks off.

  • Week 18 - Michael Morrow - This Is Our King
It's hard to find a leader who isn't in it for the money or the glory. Looking at the politicians of today makes me appreciate what a perfect King Jesus is. These lyrics draw from heavily on Philippians 2:5-11.
    This is our King
    He gave up his throne
    Made himself nothing
    The servant of all
    This is our King
    Perfect in all his ways
    Wanting one thing
    To honour his Father
    God has exalted
Gave him name above all names
King of kings and Lord of lords
    Every knee will bow
    And every tongue confess
    That Jesus Christ is Lord
Fill the heavens and the earth
    With Jesus’ name
    This is our King
    They offered him fame
    They offered him riches
    And he turned them down
    This is our King
He chose to die for us
    He was humble
    Dying to save us
    God has exalted
Gave him name above all names
King of kings and Lord of lords
    Every knee will bow
    And every tongue confess
    That Jesus Christ is Lord
Fill the heavens and the earth
    With Jesus’ name
