  • Week 16 - spry - Careful Approach (WB16)
Took some of my ideas from last week and slowed it way down, made some changes and tried a salsa style beat for this week. Didn't turn out very salsa in tone or texture but if you try to dance to it it still works :D
Spent about 30 minutes making new patterns and adjusting tempo etc. about 30 minutes figuring out the sequencing. another hour putting the details in with the mixing, filters, tuning the sidechains, fx etc. Total work time about 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon

  • Week 16 - BTS - Sleepwalk Meridian
I started this week's track with a set of chord progressions that I programmed into Reason's Chord Sequencer. After creating a progression that I liked, I created a MIDI sequence that I could use for other arpeggiators.
I built out two arpeggiated sequences, then a bassline that ran through the track along with the pad.
I finished the track with some mixing, EQing and mastering.

  • Week 16 - jemmons - About that sidequest…
Happy week 16, everyone! It’s funny. I’ve been down the last couple of weeks, and I’m actually feeling pretty good this one. It’s spring. The weather is getting nice (if tumultuous), the birds are singing. I’m getting outside more. Things are looking up… and that’s made getting a song out pretty hard! This is so much easier when I’m brooding in a tiny room all day 🙃

  • Week 16 - Mockq - It's not jus music
I have a new baby in my family- the ableton move- and it helped me through the week to create an idea and then I just added a vocal line from splice in ableton and recorded it. It may not have much tension but i like it though.... Enjoy and have a lovely week!

  • Week 16 - Celio_Morya - Culture Cruisers - Dub of the ancients
This week was, once again, overwhelming. Work took up most of my time, and inspiration was hard to find. By the time I had a moment to create, exhaustion had already set in—but I still managed to put something together.
What you’ll hear this week is a journey into an ancient world, inspired by our ancestors and their instruments, blended with the raw power of modern kick and bass and broken percussions and old Vedic chanting. It’s a kind of spiritual passage, guided by the sound of a mystical flute, emerging from a place where fatigue and persistence meet.
I hope you all enjoy this journey !

  • Week 16 - theagainagain - maximalism
This week I explored my past by attempting a song in the vein of how I used to make music 10 years ago. This track is composed of heavily processed samples and a couple instances of SublabXL. Listening to it on my laptop speakers rather than my monitors, I feel like I should have done a little more treatment on the four on the floor kicks to make them cut through the mix at higher frequencies, but I think the pumping effect I'm getting with track spacer kinda gives the impression it's there even if small speakers can't quite produce the low low. I had fun with this, my partner came into the room while I was working on it, and was stoked to catch the vibe, so overall I'm happy with how it came out. I'm thinking about incorporating this type of more dance-ish stuff more again.

  • Week 16 - onezero - Vermilion
This one started in a late Friday session with a theme that didn't end up in the final piece, but which set the time signature as 6/4. The timing is kind of elastic--it's mostly on, but some things creep a little ahead, or have a little breath in front of them. I didn't end up moving any of those, so you hear them as they're recorded.
Three tracks of PureSalem Mendiola, no inline effects, bit of convolution reverb, and the usual compression/eq/limiting on the stereo mix. If there was a challenge with this one, it was editing this down--the slow tempo makes for some long sections. (In retrospect, maybe I shouldn't have cut quite so much.)
The title comes from the prominence of Vermilion peak in Colorado: 642m.

  • Week 16 - waziam - Bando's List
Having fun with romplers today. Used the Akai SG01v and the Roland JV1010 mostly, plus thought it was a good opportunity to use one of the old drum machines so got the Korg DDM-220 in the mix.
Anyone that can pick which movie I've been watching to get here gets my admiration and sympathy.
