  • Week 15 - home taping association - a patient retracing
feel like a somewhat return to form.  at least it's a full song!  started it earlier this week and lost my way a bit.  came back to it, struggled to found some guitar counterpoint so left it rather unadorned.  I like the 'glide guitar' from the Yamaha fx500 soft focus patch.  I think it's going to get a lot of overuse over the next few weeks.
EDIT - jeez, the bass is too loud!

  • Week 15 - Cursory - You Crawl
Pretty quick double-track recording this week to get the ideas down. Traveling so somewhat lo-fi mode with USB mic and earbud mixing  The first lyric is a carryover from my Week 7 track, but used pretty differently. Hard not to rewrite “Fade into You which really just owns that beginning I V ii progression.
    › Lyrics‹ Lyrics
You were laughing til you cried
If you’d fumble all your life
    After all you saw
    Stared down that hall
And still haven’t changed your mind
    You crawl
Reign of terror, rule by knife
    Where’s your peaceful paradise?
    No one else to call
To save face or take the fall
Though the end is there, in sight
    You crawl
Say it’s over, pack up your toy soldiers
Time to mend it rebuild all upended
Say it’s over, pack up your toy soldiers
Time to mend it rebuild all suspended

  • Week 15 - uhhuh_absolutely - Through the Fog
    Tumultuous week this week.
Got started on this one on Saturday by recording a bunch of stuff on my Perkons and Super 6 with the modular looper set up. Chopped it up last night and today. Pretty happy with it over all! A bit same-y, without distinct sections, but I like the vibe.

  • Week 15 - Snyderman - Neurofunk I guess? (OPL3)
Spent a lot of time listening to Neurofunk this weekend, a subgenre of Drum and Bass and took some time to try to reverse engineer the genre. I think I was partially successful but no big deal either way, had fun with it.

  • Week 15 - Abludo - Cave House
I have, as I often do, been inspired by the music of Minecraft. It's a peaceful nostalgic atmosphere, and despite the game being quite mainstream, the music is often not appreciated a lot. Most importantly this week, my wife challenged me to get this week's beat done in 45 mins so we could resume our minecraft session - so I sat down at the piano, and here it is. I added a sampled beat in because it felt right.
Paired with a recording of seagulls from the local seafront while I was walking with her this week.
I think it is a song that says "look at what you have, and realise it will be gone before you know it, but that will be because you'll be somewhere new looking back on this time as a happy memory"

  • Week 15 - slipball - Your Beautiful Mistake
Not sure how everyone else does this, over time I'm waiting longer to get started each week. I gotta stop that, it was more fun when I started practicing early. Regardless, I like a lot of the parts here. It could have used a few more days to come together :)

  • Week 15 - Super_Pig - Purified
My first time doing something breakcore and I'm really proud with how it turned out! More Logic Presets mixed in with Arturia Emulator II and using the Remix FX Plugin for the gates and down sampling. It was also made in 1.5 hours so I'm very happy with it.
The beginning was inspired by the OST from MyHouse.Wad which I just rewatched someone playing through again.

  • Week 15 - Sloki - Falls
Been away for a few weeks with some rather pressing things, which sucks because I really wanted to stick to this for the year, but also it could be a lesson in not calling it quits at the first hurdle or something? Either way.
So this is very much just a random selection of lines I stuck together whilst trying to learn about modes as I have about as much musical theory knowledge as a brick and I'm trying to remedy that. Had to fix very sloppy playing on Ableton, messed around with different variations of stuff, then doubled the track and ran it fully wet through another reverb. Needs mixing and stuff but my kid likes it so that works for me!
As a side note - anyone have any recommendations for a good piano VST? Because this one is sounding very 2004 polyphonic ringtone.
