  • Week 15 - Daisy - Ophelia
This piece is in A-crazy Major. This week I used another interpretation of the major scale in that I used the traditional scale formula backwards. Normally the pattern of Whole-step and Half-steps inverted.  A regular Major scale has this pattern: WS WS HS WS WS WS HS.  I had my scale ascend with HS WS WS WS HS WS WS.  It gave a rather other worldly cast to whatever fell out of my head.  I got this idea from a book called Harmonic Experience by W. A. Mathieu. I heard about it on the FB page entitled Music Theory.  This page is know for always being in a snit about something.  I read it because it is so amusing what they fight about.  However when this book was mentioned -- they all simmered down and talked very enthusiastically about Harmonic Experience. I actually learned so much from these people when they weren't throwing down the gauntlet every 5 minutes.
Ophelia is a 2018 movie that I just recently watched on Tubi.  I loved this!  It is Hamlet but from Ophelia's  point of view.  Very well done.  At the end I felt uplifted and not disappointed.  Music was great. Costumes were very beautiful.  I know these things because for a few years in college I was part of the Society for Creative Anachronism. I played violin in a medieval consort for lots of the dancing done at the feasts that were held.  Dancers need someone that can keep a steady beat-- trust a music major for that!
This is my Ophelia. Urgency, energy, romantic beautiful sadness-a relentlessly spirited young girl growing up in a court in Denmark, in love with Hamlet, full of spirit and adventure, and ending with tragedy (ah Shakespeare).

  • Week 15 - ModuLoBro - Grace
I mentioned a few weeks ago that I really love the humanity that (in my not completely EDM-literate) artists like San Holo and Fred again.. bring to their music. (I'm sure there are many more worthy contributors, yes!) By humanity, I think I mean... compassion, and especially in the case of Fred again..'s COVID-era releases based on recordings of friends, complete comfort with expressing love for the people around them.
Here's one inspired by San Holo, very very obviously, that feels too close maybe to develop and sign anywhere but certainly a pretty proof-of-concept sketch.
Synthstrom Deluge for all instruments; my voice added in Logic Pro. Because I'm vain and I need autotune.
    Lyrics
    People can change
I know I am not the same
    Back in the day
    All those promises we made
Time can erase or compound our great mistakes
It’s hard to face, so let’s give ourselves some grace

  • Week 15 - Tomavatars - Carnival and Survival Mode
    Hiiiii!
Rush! But I managed to do a track. As last weeks, using my M4L units (I still have some bugs…). Some CPU dropouts but no time to listen to the whole track before posting so sorry in advance if it's audible.
Nothing really special except that I really like Operator and some fx chains for sound design purposes.
Also making some interesting 5/4 10/4 modulation signatures with my soon to be release M4L midi effect.
    Have a nice week!

  • Week 15 - noggin - Gag
Beat made from samples from probably my most-used piece of wax, freestyled and recorded to a tape deck I got for free.
    Hope you like dirt!

  • Week 15 - MRDRCAT - Bounce House Stalker
Apparently I spent over 4 hours on this one? And it sounds like I knocked it out in 45 minutes?? I guess there will be weeks like that. This one started with the beat just being in my head when I woke up yesterday, so I threw that into the M8 and added the bass line, then the rest of it was shoehorned into place even though it does NOT belong there and is kind of embarrassed to be seen in such dubious company. There's a lot of "that'll do" in this track, and lots of weird sound design (all sounds are my own M8 synth patches, including the dumb little spring noise).
I deliberately pushed the limiter and OTT settings on the M8, which in turn pushed me out of my mixing comfort zone, so this mix is going to be a little odd. Might be another oversaturated one like a couple weeks ago. They can't all be winners, but at least they can be short!

  • Week 15 - Nyarlos - The Template
Pieced this together from my 'starter' song I wrote in December to get my templates and drum sounds ready for this year, but then forgot to actually finish! Was a bit of a mess, cause I hadn't completely fleshed it out, bu just wanted my usual minor key Black Metal, with some leads cleans and some fast and slow bits, was meant to be so I could see how everything sounded.
