Happy Thanksgiving! Join me on this special episode as I relive my unforgettable visit to Tendril Wine Cellars, released on this joyous day in 2023. Amidst the warmth of family gatherings, delicious food, and excellent wine, let's dive into the tale of my exploration.
In my July 17th, 2021 newsletter, I embarked on a quest for Oregon sparkling wines. Inspired by a couple from Florida, Alfreda and Michelle, who raved about their visit to Tendril, I couldn't resist reaching out to explore the winery's charm, especially with winemaker Tony Rynders crafting a sparkling wine.
Before we dive into the tasting, I take you through the rich history of Tony Rynders. From his early days at Domaine Serene to the challenges of starting Tendril and consulting for various wineries, Tony's journey is a captivating storybook.
During the tasting, I sit down with Andrew, who graciously guides me through the wines. We start with the 2019 Child's Play Chardonnay, where every label is an artistic creation by Tony's daughters. The 2017 Extrovert Pinot Noir and the 2017 Carter Vineyard Pinot Noir follow, each with its unique story and flavor profile.
Tony himself joins the conversation, pouring insights into his winemaking philosophy. We discuss the origins of Tendril, the art of storytelling in winemaking, and the spectacular 2016 Tightrope Pinot Noir.
Ben, the winemaker at Tendril, also joins the conversation, sharing his unique perspective on winemaking and the philosophy of crafting wines that are truly spectacular. The episode concludes with a delightful surprise pour of the 2015 C Note, adding the perfect finale to a remarkable tasting.
Special thanks to Andrew for his hospitality and coordination, making this tasting experience at Tendril truly exceptional. If you ever visit, be sure to say, 'A.J. sent me.' Wishing you a fantastic Thanksgiving filled with great company, delicious food, and, of course, excellent wine.
Cheers!
