  • My 43 year old boyfriend's failure to launch

Putting our finger on the pulse of society and tackling the Internet's hard-hitting questions, David and I are back with another piping hot slice of advice.

    -----

Wedding Guest Put Off By Cash Grab
The son of a friend is getting married in March. They're both in their 30s and employed.
They are planning an expensive wedding, followed by an expensive honeymoon to Thailand, and have established a registry asking for funding for their honeymoon or future home.

As we are not interested in contributing to these expenses, would it be appropriate to make a contribution to a charity in honor of their nuptials?

Under the circumstances, we plan to save our money by declining the wedding invitation, afraid that a kitty jar might be passed to pay for the ceremony.

    -----

Long Distance Love Lives At Home
I am currently dating a man, "Bobby," who lives two hours away. He owns his own business and pays his own bills BUT he still lives with his parents. Bobby is 43. He stated that there was no reason for him to move out (the business he owns is located on their property).

Also, my 16-year-old daughter refuses to acknowledge Bobby.

I know she needs adjustment time, but it has been a year since the divorce, which she wholeheartedly wanted and pushed for.

I have been dating Bobby for nine months now.

    Advice on both issues, please...?

    Front Yard Take Over
A terrible car accident happened in front of my house a few months ago that resulted in the death of a husband and father. The family comes out every Sunday to place flowers at the accident site, which is my front yard. At first, I had no problem with them expressing their grief and tried to console the widow every time I saw her.

The problem is, she has gradually added to the area a memorial stone, an angel statue, vases and some of her husband’s belongings. My front yard is beginning to look like a graveyard — a tacky one.

Now she’s asking to place a protective shelter over the site. I don’t know how to respond.

    -----

Dad Kills Dolls To Get Daughter To Wash Hands
There's been a handful of COVID-19 cases in my area and there seems to be very little government effort to slow down the spread.

I've been encouraging my kids to wash their hands frequently but my 5 y/o daughter isn't washing her hands enough. I came up with the idea to throw out one of her dolls and tell her it died of the coronavirus.

She's pretty upset and my wife said it was a stupid thing to do. I just want to limit the chances of us all catching the disease, especially since I work in a care home.

  • The Remarkable Art of The Gradual Ghost

As a seasoned Married at First Sight expert, I have a very deep and thorough understanding of romantic relationships and fully understand how difficult it is to let someone down when you're just not feeling it anymore.

It can be difficult to summon the courage to have that conversation face-to-face and really let that person know how you feel... or you could just ghost them. But in 2020, we don't just ghost anymore, we 'gradually ghost' and 'partial ghost'.

Why I Ghosted My Perfect Girlfriend
After 4 months of dating Amanda, Liam realised she wasn't exactly what he was looking for in a partner.
Despite Amanda's clear and deep feelings, along with her recently made plans for them to travel overseas together, Liam began planning his escape route.
Not quite brave enough to tackle the issue head-on, Liam put a new twist on a familiar dating tactic, ghosting, by utilising the slow-ghost aka 'Gradual Ghosting'.
Not alone in his new-age twist on the dating dump tactic, author and documentary filmmaker Rusty Young admits to using the 'Partial Ghost'. A technique utilising the mute feature in text, email and social channels.

US Adult Sites See Growing Interest in Users Searching for Coronavirus Content
A sudden rise in content and searches on adult sites for coronavirus content has some people confused and others very satisfied it would seem.
Particular sites are even using the virus to promote their business and websites in areas where human contact must be kept to a minimum.

Louisiana Driver with License Plate That Expired in 1997
Slidell, Louisiana, where a driver was recently pulled over for having an expired license plate.
The tag license plate expired in 1997. “We can’t make this stuff up!” the department captioned in a photo of the expired plate.
The driver reportedly told police, “Sorry, officer. I’ve been busy lately and totally forgot to renew my vehicle registration. I will take care of it as soon as I get home.”

  • New study finds rich people are trash

Do we even buy alien stories any more? What about the man whose house has been hit by 6 meteorites? Coincidence or elaborate extraterrestrial goof?

A new study from the University of Nevada finally gives us the solid evidence that rich people are unempathetic trash. And if I hit someone with my car... they owe me for the damages, right?

If you want to jump straight to the title story, skip to this time code: 09:50

    -----

Man hit by six meteorites claims to be 'targeted by aliens'

The world first became aware of Radivoje Lajic in 2008 after the fifth meteorite crashed into the roof of his home in Gornji Lajici. Now another rock has hit the roof of his house making it the sixth strike since they began in 2007.

Lajic is convinced that he is being targeted by extraterrestrials, although claiming to not know what he would have done to annoy them.

One person's response to the story claims that Mr. Lajic knows more than he is letting on and could be hiding something the aliens want.

    -----

Expensive car drivers are less empathetic than others, new study claims

A new study, conducted by the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, has found that drivers of expensive vehicles are less likely to stop and allow pedestrians to cross the road -- with the likelihood they'll slow down decreasing by 3% for every extra $1,000 that their vehicle is worth.

Researchers speculated that expensive car owners "felt a sense of superiority over other road users" and are less able to empathise with them.

These findings are supported by a Finnish study published in the Journal of Transport and Health that found men who own flashy vehicles are more likely to be "argumentative, stubborn, disagreeable and unempathetic."

    -----

Cyclist hit by car then sued for damages to vehicle

Bryan Agnello was biking home when a motorist struck him from behind, propelling him onto the car’s hood. His bike was mangled and he was taken by ambulance to the hospital for evaluation.

Agnello, lucky to escape the crash without serious injury, received a notice from Rochester City Court claiming the driver, Jovonte Cook, had filed a $700 claim against Agnello for damage to his car.

  • Two Ghosts, A Guy and An Aeroplane

Delving into the minds of strange people doing strange things is what this show is all about... but sometimes, no matter how many episodes you do, stories you tell, or odd people you uncover, you just can't be prepared for all of them.

On this episode of Weird But Wonderful, it's hard to solidify your position on the people in the story. Are you with them? Or is the behaviour too out there for you? You're living your best life with your ghost girlfriend? Well fuck yeah - do you! Gary's not hurting anyone, so who are we to judge? A Karen reclines her seat into your face - shall we politely ask her to move? or punch the seat for an hour like a lunatic? And stop sharing journals.

    -----

Man has a threesome with two ghosts for kinky Valentine's Day

We take a trip to New Jersey and into the life of Gary DeNoia whose sex life, with partner Lisa, is so amazing that he took to news websites to tell them all about it.

Lisa is a ghost by the way.

For this year's Valentines Day, Gary and Lisa have welcomed a third party into the bedroom... another ghost named Sadie.

But it's not all kinky romps planned for the big day.

    -----

Man filmed after allegedly punching woman's reclined seat on flight

To recline, or not recline... that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to sprawl.

It's apparently one of the greatest debates when it comes to flying.

The recliners: you've paid for the seat, it's designed to recline, so hit that button and sprawl out.

The non-recliners: you are invading fellow passenger space, which is already extremely limited.

On a recent American Airlines flight in the US, one passenger decided to shame a fellow flyer who "punched" and pushed her seat after she reclined it.

But she was apparently met with hostility from the flight attendants who allegedly took the side of the seat puncher.

What's the right in-flight etiquette? Recline? Don't recline? Seat punch?

Thief's journal contains lists of homes to rob... and his address

Robert Shull Goddard, 49, of Nashville Tennessee was busted after authorities say they discovered the well-organised burglar's notebook detailing other houses he had and planned to target.

Investigators were able to identify the suspect, in part, through notes his daughter left in the journal, along with her address.

  • Party Food Faux Pas & The Gambling Grievance

What happens when someone eats more than their fair share of the party food? How do you handle that situation? Or what if someone hits the jackpot on the novelty slot machine in your living room? Do they get to keep the cash?

On this advice episode of Weird But Wonderful, my friend David joins me in lending a helping hand to people whose parties have wound down after things got a little too real and heated.

    -----

    Antique slot machine jackpot

Our first advice seeker has a 1940s style slot machine in his living room as a fun novelty for friends and family to play when they're over.

People have played it over the years and won a few quarters here and there with the max being around $50 at a time.

However, last night, a friend's friend hit the jackpot - $700. The owner of the slot machine refused to let him keep the money. The winner's case was he'd been playing with his own real money and the owner would've kept his quarters.

The owner said he'd give him his quarters back, but he's not a casino and couldn't afford to give him the $700.

Things kind of spiralled from there.

    -

I ate more than "my share" of a 6-foot party sub last night

Our second advice seeker was invited to a friend's UFC party where they had ordered a 6-foot party sub.

He at a serving of the sandwich but was still very hungry. He waited an hour and a half to see if people were still interested in the sandwich. After which time, he took half of the remaining 3-foot sub and tucked in. He gave it another 10-15mins and then polished off the final 1.5 feet of sub.

Right as he is swallowing the last bite... the host's girlfriend asks where the sandwich was. Everyone points to the advice seeker. She furiously calls him an incredible pig and says he has been selfish.

Our advice seeker offers to order pizza, but she said that was a pathetic offer. The night ends up winding down after a tense situation.

He wakes up the next morning to several texts from the partygoers who are very mad.

Patreon Exclusive Question: Taking my girlfriend's lasagna

Support the show on Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/mypixelpersona

Our patron-exclusive question this week comes from a guy whose girlfriend cooked them a delicious homemade lasagna for Sunday's date night.

He asks if he can take the lasagna home for his family to try and she agrees.

On Monday his girlfriend texts to ask where the lasagna was. After telling her he took it, she said I thought you were going to take SOME not the whole thing.

She spent her week's food budget on the lasagna and had intended on eating it as leftovers for the rest of the week.

He felt bad but didn't feel the need to rectify the situation. Nor did he think it was his responsibility to buy her a sandwich when she asked if he could.

So our delightful dickhead here took to the Internet to see if he was, in fact, an asshole.

  • The Better-Than-Average Effect

This one is a little different, but I had to make an episode on it when I learned about it. This episode is a deep dive into a topic that has totally fascinated me called the Better-Than-Average Effect.

Basically, we're all psychos who think we're better than the average person at pretty much anything and everything. People who have caused car accidents think they're not only better, but safer drivers than the average person. Even prisoners think they're better than the average person.

A study conducted in 2013 by the British Journal of Social Psychology found that prisoners think they're not only better than the average prisoner, but better than the average non-prisoner in everything from kindness to trustworthiness ...everything except law-abidingness.

  • Entitled Millennials and The Bookstore Trap

It's a weird time in Australia. The country's on fire, people are being openly discriminated against in job listings and our famous bookstores are being turned into pick-up artist hunting grounds. That being said, it's pretty weird in NZ too with teachers attacking students over moustaches.

Normally on this strange show about strange people, we'd have a Patron-exclusive question. This week I've decided to keep that in for everyone to... enjoy? It's hard to figure out whether or not it's a gift or a curse for you considering it involves a pretty horrendous rendition of an NZ accent.

What in-store for you on this episode:

    -----

Australia Post job application discourages 'over-entitled millennials'

Special thank you to Sam our Producer Patron for sending this one to me!

An employer has defended a job advertisement discouraging "over-entitled millennials" after Seek forced her to remove the statement as it allegedly breached age discrimination requirements.

Among common qualities such as being well-presented, eager to learn and proficiency with a computer, the listing stated: "unfortunately, the successful applicant will not be an over entitled millennial with an inflated sense of entitlement."

The licensee of the Warilla Licensed Post Office, Angela Cramp, says the statement wasn't a joke.

    -----

Pick up artists target Australia's largest bookstore to give clients 'practical experience'

Kinokuniya bookstore in Sydney has issued an open letter to customers after a “dating coaching company” was found to be using the store to give clients “practical experience” for their pick-up techniques.

“It has come to our attention that a dating coaching company has been using our store to give their clients practical experience, much to our dismay,” the apology began.

“We apologize to any of our customers who have been approached in the store or had the negative experience of someone trying “pick-up” techniques with them.”

Kinokuniya has confirmed that they have contacted the pick-up artist company in question and have asked them not to return to the premises, making it abundantly clear to any of these “coaching” companies that they are not welcome in the store.

    -----

New Zealand teach punches student for teasing his 'pedo moustache'

A New Zealand teacher has been charged with punching a student in the face after the 13-year-old said he had a "moustache like a pedo would".

The unnamed male teacher was playing touch football while the student watched from the sideline. A statement from New Zealand’s Teaching Council this week revealed that as “Teacher K” came off the field “Student B” accused him of having a pedo moustache. Teacher K then approached the student and asked him if he wanted a smack in the face—to which the student replied, “yes, right here” and pointed at his cheek.

“Teacher K then punched Student B once with a closed fist,” the statement reads.

  • The Secret Society of Plane Parties

Special thank you to our Producer Patron Sam! Support the show on www.patreon.com/mypixelpersona

Back with another red hot advice episode, joined as always by David from DCM Works - and this one is wild.

Our first advice seeker wants to know the legalities around taking 20 friends onto a plane and bursting into dance mid-flight. He makes a good point... the flight attendants can't restrain all of them, which means this party ain't got no stop.

Like usual, a great question like this one leads you and your friend into their next business venture, which is obviously to form an exclusive skull and bones-like secret society of plane parties... the natural conclusion of course.

Our second advice seeker is facing someone we've all had to deal with at one point or another. Their friend Tony has recently started a new diet (he's a keto boy), won't stop lecturing everyone about the health benefits and has even resorted to taking the food off people's plates to satisfy his own needs. They wanna know if they can cut Tony like carbs from the friend group.

Then like most episodes of this podcast, we take an unexpected u-turn into road rage etiquette and how to simmer down behind the wheel.

Our Patron exclusive question dives deep into the relationship struggles of commenting on the opposite sex's social posts and ends up with a trip down creative memory lane.

I hope you enjoy this episode! Thanks as always for listening and don't forget to share the show with a friend.

  • A Duel to the Death and Solar's Last Breath

A massive thank you to the supporters on Patreon and a very special shout out to our Producer Patron Sam!

    -----

    First Story:

A Kansas man has asked an Iowa judge to let him engage in a sword fight with his ex-wife and her attorney so he can "rend their souls" from their bodies.

David Ostrom, 40, of Paola, Kansas, said in a January 3rd court filing that his former wife, Bridgette Ostrom, 38, of Harlan, Iowa, and her attorney, Matthew Hudson, had “destroyed him legally.” The Ostroms have been embroiled in disputes over custody and visitation issues and property tax payments.

The judge has the power to let the parties “resolve our disputes on the field of battle, legally,” David Ostrom said, adding in his filing that trial by combat “has never been explicitly banned or restricted as a right in these United States.”

    Second Story:

A US town has rejected a proposal for a solar farm following public concerns.

Members of the public in Woodland, North Carolina, expressed their fear and mistrust at the proposal to allow Strata Solar Company to build a solar farm off Highway 258.

During the Woodland Town Council meeting, one local man, Bobby Mann, said solar farms would suck up all the energy from the sun and businesses would not go to Woodland, the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald reported.

Jane Mann, a retired science teacher, said she was concerned the panels would prevent plants in the area from photosynthesizing, stopping them from growing.
