The Daily News was first published in 1842, when Texas was still a Republic, and Sam Houston was President. It is still published today in Galveston.

TGhey went right to work to establish Galveston as the largest city in the Republic of Texas. Quote- “Michel Menard was also a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence ansd member of the Congress of the Republic of Texas.”

As a minor league club for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Houston Buffalos played at Buff Stadium.

More than 120 years ago the Bluebonnets became the official state flower of Texas. 3 decades later a beautification program was put into place scattering bluebonnet seeds all up and down Texas highways.

Sam Houston being named Commander in Chief of the Republic’s military forces evacuated along with delegates and settlers from Washington on the Brazos, making their way to Galveston or Louisiana, as Santa Ana’s Army marched closer.
