Dear Doctors… some insights as to why some patients don’t follow suggested treatment plans, loose trust or don’t come back.
In this episode, I, Judy, share a recent health challenge – One made complicated by the lack of correct information conveyed to me by those in my primary care, whom I depend on for the best and accurate information, informing decisions I make for my health. Complications that have very simple solutions. I propose concerns, questions and solutions for those doctors, nurses, etc. who’s charge is to care for us, their patients. A plea to those providing care – please be a thorough, mindful, truthful, and attentive listener… let yourselves be allowed to say “I don’t know” and be a partner with your patients. Your assistance, information and words have beautiful and scary consequences that we live with long after the appointment or phone call. Nobody is perfect all the time, mistakes are made, yet we must all work to seek health CARE that is not just getting the job done but doing the job well in service of those who depend on us, as best we can. I REFUSE to accept that my experience is “the best we can do”. No one should!

From Judy – IF you want to make your own sugar free jello to avoid aspartame, this looks like it has potential… I have NOT tried it! (Bonus… those measuring spoons… I didn’t even know they existed so tiny!)
As I mentioned in the show – I’m going to be at the Women’s Expo on March 3rd, 2018. Come by and visit me at booth 90 B.
Michele DeNoble talks Craniosacral Therapy; what is it? How does it benefit the body?
Get a user friendly picture of what craniosacral therapy is all about and what to expect in a typical session.
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle form of bodywork that unwinds restrictions in connective tissue and fascia. The overall purpose of this work is to restore balance to the craniosacral system, thereby improving the efficiency and function of the central nervous system. Using gentle compression or distraction, a release is initiated to help the body self-correct or unwind the restriction, working with the natural movement of the related soft tissue and fluids. The whole body is treated.
She also shares a healthy, simple meal and a couple snacks! YUM!
As stated, Michele is no longer doing this work due to the changing needs of her family. Here are suggestions –

A conversation with Jim where he shares his and Mary’s love of helping people find the RIGHT shoes for THEIR feet. What makes shopping with them unique. They work with EVERYONE! The walker, runner, the just getting started exercising, the hard to fit foot, diabetic approved shoe wearer, etc.
They sponsor beginner, REALLY beginner run/walk classes to help newbies get into, or back into moving!! (Zilch to 5K, next class April 2018. Check out episode 12 for an interview with the coach!) Winter gear options to help us navigate icy sidewalks and parking lots.
Spoiler alert! I REALLY appreciate these guys!

This is a continued conversation that really started from an article published in the Duluth Budgeteer this past winter. Judy Breuer and Joel Swan discussing in specific the passing of a much beloved fuzzy cousin, Moose; and also a wider conversation of life and death in general.

Conversation with Beth Bedell – Important insights related to end of life issues, medical record challenges, doctors’ training around these issues, advanced health care directives, POLST (Provider Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatments), philosophies and acknowledging the challenge it can be to have these hard conversations.
Beth actively works to help create understanding why health care directives are important. Beth also works to create awareness and support solving the concern that tools we have in place such as health care directives, DNR, etc. might not be easily found in an emergency situation and consequences that might come from that.

Movement… it’s not just for “work outs” anymore!
Movement… aka exercise is something many of us find challenging to get in. Wait… how much do we actually NEED? What EXACTLY do we need to do? A conversation challenging what we think of as “correct” when it comes to the concept of “working out”.
