  • #5 聞き流し英語ニュース | Podchaser raises $4M to build a comprehensive podcast database

    今日紹介した記事です🙂

     --------

Podchaser, a startup building what it calls “IMDB for podcasts,” recently announced that it has raised $4 million in a funding round led by Greycroft.

In other words, it’s a site where — similar to the Amazon-owned Internet Movie Database — users can look up who’s appeared in which podcasts, rate and review those podcasts and add them to lists. In fact, CEO Bradley Davis told me that the startup’s “vibrant, exciting community of podcast nerds” have already created 8.5 million podcast credits in the database.

Davis said this is something he simply wanted to exist and was, in fact, convinced that it had to exist already. When he realized that it didn’t, he posted on Reddit asking whether anyone was willing to build the company with him — which is how he connected with his eventual co-founder and CTO Ben Slinger in Australia. (Podchaser is a fully distributed company, with Davis currently based in Oklahoma City.)

Bitcoin Slides Below $35,000 as Crypto Mania Loses Momentum

    ------
The Bitcoin fever is starting to break as worries about a market bubble discourages investors from buying in.

Prices for the largest cryptocurrency dipped as much as 8.4% on Wednesday and traded below $34,000.
Ever since the market shot through all-time highs in early January, Bitcoin has been beset by volatility and skepticism that the run-up has been excessive.

Analysts have pointed to $40,000 as the key level that Bitcoin needs to surpass in order to draw fresh money from investors riding cryptocurrency momentum.

    Atomic Habits

     ---本文---

Progress is not linear It is very easy to lose motivation when we don’t obtain the results we want; sometimes we may feel as though we’ve put too much effort trying to achieve something, without actually seeing any positive outcomes. This is a trap that may lead us to fall into the valley of disappointment, and that is why it is very important to remember that progress is not linear. Success is the result of daily efforts—even tiny ones—that will lead to remarkable results in the long term. “Success is the product of daily habits — not once-in-a-lifetime transformations.” — James Clear We can look at habits the same way we look at investments. We probably won’t see big returns in the short-term, but that doesn’t mean we’re not making any progress. In fact, one little turning point can make all the difference between seeing a return or nothing at all. If we think of habits in financial terms, this is very similar to the famous saying: time in the market beats timing the market. The longer we stick to building good habits (or breaking bad ones), the closer we get to obtaining the results we want. https://medium.com/curious/atomic-habits-my-key-takeaways-6765a0b8c611

  • #1 聞き流し英語ニュース | Roast Your Garlic Upside Down

    ---本文---

Roasting garlic is not hard. You cut off the top, drizzle some olive oil on the exposed cloves, and wrap it all up in foil. Easy enough—but roasting it upside down in a ramekin is even easier. For one, you don’t have to worry about stocking foil or cloves sticking to the foil, which always happens with at least one of mine (usually the biggest, most tantalizing one, because we live in a taunting, cruel world). Roasting your garlic in a ramekin is, dare I say it, easier than roasting it in foil, because you don’t have to wrap anything. Slice about half an inch off the top of the bulb like you usually would, drizzle a little olive oil in a ramekin, and set the garlic into the oil, cut side down. Roast for the usual amount of time (40 minutes to an hour), then flip the bulb over to reveal beautifully roasted garlic unstuck to any foil. Even better, the oil you used to roast the garlic is now infused with garlicky goodness. Drizzle it on vegetables, dip some bread in it, maybe take a swig. https://skillet.lifehacker.com/roast-your-garlic-upside-down-1845968374
