On Wednesday morning, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that he will be suspending State Attorney Monique H. Worrell, citing neglect of duty.
DeSantis made the announcement, saying Worrell's criminal justice administration has been, "clearly and fundamentally derelict, so as to constitute neglect of duty and incompetence."

A 6-year-old boy fell from a popular local theme park roller coaster. He was riding the Galaxy Spin at Fun Spot Kissimmee on Thursday, Aug. 3, around 3:30 p.m., along with another boy in the same vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office incident report, and fell out.

- Two Orlando police officers -- shot downtown Friday -- remain in the hospital this morning. Police Chief Eric Smith said the SWAT team shot and killed the suspected shooter at a hotel Saturday morning. The officers are expected to make a full recovery.

- The mother of a 10-year-old girl accused of shooting and killing a woman is expected in court today. Last year, witnesses say Lakrisha Isaac and Lashun Rodgers got into a fight. Isaac's 10 year old daughter pulled a gun out of her mother's bag and shot Rodgers in the head. Isaac is scheduled to go to trial a week from today.

A 22-year-old surfer from Oviedo is the fourth shark bite victim of the year in Volusia County. The area typically sees more shark bites than any other place in the country.

On Monday, a crocodile killed a pet dog in the waterways of a Satellite Beach community, raising concern for some neighbors, like Jon Appling, whose backyard is bordered by water.

- Fire officials in Orlando are investigating the cause of a fire that broke out less than a block from Camping World Stadium. Flames could be seen coming through the roof of this building on Pine Street. The call came in just before 9:30 last night. The fire chief says it's the third time this year a fire has broken out there. No one was hurt.

- Cocoa police say they've identified a possible suspect after shots were fired not far from a youth football practice on Tuesday. Police say a coach intervened in a dispute that turned physical between a woman and her ex-boyfriend. They allege the ex fired at the coach. The coach fired back. Police say the coach isn't facing charges because it was self defense.
