- Students in Orange County will no longer be able to use their cell phones during the school day. The district voted last night to make changes to its cell phone policy ahead of the new school year. Students cannot use them during class unless it's explicitly requested by a teacher for educational purposes.

- Osceola County Schools also has a new cell phone policy for the upcoming school year. Students can only take out their phones if the teacher allows the devices for instructional reasons. If a student has a medical conditions that requires the use of an app. Or in the event of schoolwide emergencies, like lockdowns.

- Investigators say they've found the van linked to an Amber Alert issued for a 14-year-old girl in Daytona Beach. Barbora Zdanska was last seen on Boynton Boulevard on Sunday. Video showed her getting into the van voluntarily. But her family says they got information indicating she had been kidnapped.

- Melbourne Police are looking for the person who shot a 13-year-old girl outside the Sabal Palms Apartments. She told officers that a man driving a white truck or SUV accused her and her friends of throwing rocks at his truck then started shooting. Police say she is expected to recover. Florida is one of the top states with the most new leprosy cases in the country, according to a new research letter from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

- In Orange County, an 18-year-old is dead and a 17-year-old is recovering following a shooting in Winter Park. Deputies say Cesar Clemente Hiraldo was killed near Sun Bay Apartments on Aloma Avenue Friday night.

- A man accused of killing his aunt's boyfriend in a Casselberry apartment is being held behind bars on no bond this morning. 27-year-old Joel Ferrer is accused of shooting and killing David Jackson Thursday - at Regency Oaks Apartments. Ferrer's next court appearance is scheduled for August 29th.

- A Seminole County detective is out on bond after he's accused of tipping off suspects connected to an undercover operation. Investigators say the suspects thought they were traveling to meet minors for sex. The sheriff says that detective sent warnings to those suspects to let them know, they were targets and help them get away.

- A man accused of shooting and killing a Daytona Beach police officer is expected in court today.

Othal Wallace is accused of shooting Officer Jason Raynor in June of 2021. Raynor died in the hospital a few weeks later. His trial was originally set to begin in a few days but has since been pushed back to September 5th.

Florida is the first state to allow the conservative curriculum PragerU in public schools. The group says they create video, magazines and books to offer “a free alternative to the dominant left-wing ideology in culture, media, and education.”

- Police in Eustis will give an update today on a homicide case from January. A 39-year-old man was shot during an argument on Palm Avenue. Police say they are talking to witnesses and following active leads.

- Also in Eustis, a man is dead after a fight over a woman turned violent. Tiffany Rivera says her husband 47-year-old Eddie Alexis Vazquez Muniz was shot and killed. Investigators say he was waiting to ambush the other man, attacking him with brass knuckles. The shooter fired at the woman's husband, saying it was self defense.

- The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District will vote on a new contract for firefighters at Reedy Creek. They've been fighting for these raises for years. The pay for firefighter-paramedics could increase to $66,000 a year. And $56,000 per year for firefighter-EMTs.

- People in Seminole County are speaking out about chemicals in their drinking water. They're concerned about a compound called 1,4 Dioxane. Leaders say that the water has consistently been below state health department advisory levels. They say they're working on measures to prevent future contamination, more oversight and testing.
