The Ipswich community is preparing to join the national movement for Day for Daniel Ipswich, a child safety awareness initiative aimed at empowering children with essential safety knowledge. On Friday, October 25th, Ipswich will host a special event at Tulmur Place on Nicholas Street from 9 a.m., as part of the largest child safety awareness day in Australia.
Senior Constable Kerrin Sheedy of the Ipswich District Crime Prevention Unit discussed the significance of Day for Daniel on West Bremer Radio, noting that it is a vital national day of action. “The event is focused on educating children about their personal safety, including being aware of their surroundings, acting on instincts, and reporting if something doesn’t feel right,” Sheedy explained.
The event, organized by the Queensland Police Service, Ipswich City Council, and local partners, is part of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s broader mission to keep kids safe. The foundation, established in memory of Daniel Morcombe, works tirelessly to educate children about personal safety and assist victims of crime.
Community members attending the event are encouraged to wear red to honor Daniel. The day will feature family-friendly activities, including face painting, a sausage sizzle, and entertainment from the Queensland Police Service Pipes and Drums, as well as Cops and Kills. There will also be merchandise for sale, with all proceeds going to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
A highlight of the day will be a special story time at the Ipswich Children’s Library, led by Sergeant Nadine Webster, offering a meaningful opportunity for children and their families to learn about staying safe.
Day for Daniel Ipswich is a key part of ongoing efforts to promote child safety throughout the year. “It’s essential we work together as a community to teach our children the 3Rs—recognize, react, and report—when it comes to their safety,” said Sheedy.
Ipswich invites everyone to attend and show their support for this important cause.
