Councillor Augustine, who visited last year, said, “If I said 200 people came through, I’d be short of a few.” The event is free, and all are welcome to stop by Milford Street between 5 and 8 p.m. on Halloween night.

For those looking for a more family-friendly Halloween experience, Yamanto Central Shopping Center is also inviting locals to get into the Halloween spirit by dressing up and visiting the shopping center for treats and fun activities. “Halloween is all about having fun, dressing up, and enjoying the night safely,” added Augustine.

Other costs that cannot be claimed include generators, solar panels, and certain maintenance expenses that aren’t directly linked to a participant’s disability.

These restrictions could impact families whose loved ones may have behaviors leading to property damage due to their disability. Louise recommended consulting with Local Area Coordinators (LACs) and support coordinators for a thorough review and detailed evidence submission. “It’s about making sure there’s a clear link between the need for support and the disability,” Louise emphasized.

When discussing therapies, Louise shared that NDIS will only fund core therapies that directly address a participant’s specific disability. While essential therapies like psychology, occupational therapy, and speech are still covered, others—like reflexology and aromatherapy—are no longer eligible unless specified in a participant’s plan.

Mayor Teresa Harding has announced that Ipswich City Council is nearing the completion of a significant upgrade on Redbank Plains Road, months ahead of schedule. Harding praised the progress, particularly on the newly opened four lanes between Highbury Drive and Argyle Street. “We had to take over the project earlier this year after the original contractor went into administration,” Harding said. “A local company has since stepped in and done a fantastic job.”

The project is expected to wrap up by December, barring any weather disruptions. Harding thanked residents for their patience during the roadworks, adding, “While roadworks can be inconvenient, the finished result will significantly improve the flow of traffic and accessibility for road users.”

In other developments, the Ipswich Nature Centre has installed five new shelters to protect visitors from the sun and migrating flying fox colonies. The family-friendly center, located in the historic Queen’s Park, now offers shade along the pathways as visitors enjoy over 200 animals, including dingoes, wombats, and a petting zoo. “I go there regularly, especially when there are baby animals,” Harding shared, encouraging families to visit.

On Friday, October 25th, Ipswich will host a special event at Tulmur Place on Nicholas Street from 9 a.m., as part of the largest child safety awareness day in Australia.

Senior Constable Kerrin Sheedy of the Ipswich District Crime Prevention Unit discussed the significance of Day for Daniel on West Bremer Radio, noting that it is a vital national day of action. “The event is focused on educating children about their personal safety, including being aware of their surroundings, acting on instincts, and reporting if something doesn’t feel right,” Sheedy explained.

The event, organized by the Queensland Police Service, Ipswich City Council, and local partners, is part of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s broader mission to keep kids safe. The foundation, established in memory of Daniel Morcombe, works tirelessly to educate children about personal safety and assist victims of crime.

Community members attending the event are encouraged to wear red to honor Daniel. Tracy, who uses a wheelchair, expressed her excitement for her upcoming Christmas dance performance, an event she has been rehearsing for as part of Focal’s community activities. When asked what she loves most about Focal, Tracy’s answer was simple: “Dancing and singing.”

The show highlighted the important role support workers play in the lives of people with disabilities. Amanda, a dedicated Focal support worker, discussed the day-to-day tasks she helps clients with, including shopping trips and social outings. “It’s about being caring and understanding,” said Amanda. “No two days are the same.
