When Jesus teaches etiquette, he challenges some of the accepted customs of his day. Both banquet guests and host are schooled on the etiquette of the Kingdom of God.

Jesus offends a powerful leader of the synagogue by healing on the Sabbath. Is this kind of healing work, or is it something else? Jesus sees his actions as something other than the kind of work that would violate the rules of Sabbath observance. When is it okay not to follow the rules?

When I was young I thought that Qoheleth, the Preacher/Teacher of Ecclesiastes, was old and cynical. Now that I am more mature and experienced, I think he old and realistic. The Preacher/Teacher reflects on the nature of life with all of its beauty and all of its challenges. And change is a fundamental part of life.
