Children's Moment 3/13/2016

Sometimes church is a place where we tell our stories. But often we are hesitate to tell them out of fear that our shortcomings will be sneered at, told among the community as gossip, used as means for judging us. What we really need church to be is a safe place to tell our stories, a place where forgiveness is at the center.

Have you ever been thirsty? Really thirsty? Or really hungry? We may fast by choice but rarely, if ever, by necessity. Can we really understand hungering and thirsting for God if we have never experienced physical hunger or thirst? What might it mean for God to be the answer to our deepest yearning?

Tough times intrude in every life. Has God deserted us when those tough times come along, or are they opportunities to grow closer to God and to praise God?

Psalm 91 expresses great confidence that God will protect the psalmist from all ills. One can read that to mean God will protect ME from all ills. But does God have MY best interest at heart, or does God have OUR best interest at heart, such that at times my own interest must suffer for the common good?

On Transfiguration Sunday we recall moments in our lives when things were so good we wish they could last forever. But pilgrimages never stop, and although we can look back on such times, we know that growth occurs as we move forward.

Revell Michael delivers witness to her own faith journey and particularly her experience with a Covenant Discipleship group. In the process she explains what covenant discipleship involves and invites congregants to participate in an upcoming Lenten series led by David Lowes Watson.
