When young Mary, very much pregnant, came to visit, Elizabeth could have had any of a number of reactions from pity, to anger, to giving Mary quite a lecture. She proved to be understanding and welcoming, though, and in response Mary spilled forth with a magnificent song.

Repentance is not just feeling guilty or saying that we're sorry. Repentance means we change the way we act toward others. John calls this new way of acting "fruits of repentance," and when people ask what those are he is very specific in his answers.

John the Baptist, the "voice crying out in the wilderness," plays a little fast and loose with Isaiah and opens the door to the transformation of the world. How does he do this?

When Jesus was baptized, the voice from heaven clearly commissioned Jesus as a servant but also as a king. We, too, are called to royalty.
