What unpleasant tasks in your life have you tried to avoid? In our story today Jesus had a chance to avoid a dirty job, but He didn’t. Jesus was teaching us a lesson on how you love someone to the fullest extent. This morning we can learn from him how to love more fully. And we end with a challenge to love as Jesus loved and to even express that love to one who has or may disappoint us. Jesus has given us an example. How will we react? What will we learn from it?

Few experiences in life will shake us more than death and the black cloud of grief it brings. Our text today tells of a time in Jesus’ life when death invaded His circle of relationships. How did He handle such grief? Today we examine the realities of death and how we must face it and come to grips with by looking at how Jesus handled such grief. We also study the common human reactions to grief as we work through the “Ten Stages of Grief.” While grief is a normal human reaction, even though we suffer loss and grieve, grief can be hopeful for those in Christ.

Jesus had the most perceptive heart, recognizing the hurts and needs of people long before they did themselves. In his very essence Jesus is the master, the greatest counselor, and the creator and sustainer of life. It is only fitting that as we seek to take truth next door we do so by engaging the world like Jesus.

Deep down inside of every one of us there is the need to be appreciated. Life experiences teach us that in our family relationships with those we love the most and are closest to, we fail to let them know how much we appreciate them. David really understood this whole issue of self-esteem and appreciation as we shall learn from our scripture today.

Good friends are hard to find. They are jewels. The Bible teaches us that "there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:24). Again the scriptures say, " a friend loves at all times" (Proverbs 17:17). It is not always easy to be a friend, but if we are sincere in fulfilling our God given mission of being His witnesses throughout the world, then we must learn to be a friend and how to befriend our neighbors. Ask yourself, if you were someone else would you want you for a friend?
