     There is a quote I came across with researching this episode, by the literary scholar, A.C. Bradley: “The calamities and catastrophe follow inevitably from the deeds of men and the main source of these deeds is character”.  The characters in this case are Mark & Jennair Gerardot, who appeared to have a happy marriage…. until Mark met and fell in love with Meredith Chapman.  What we see unfold is a modern day Shakesperean tragedy... or an impending train wreck in the making.  Sounds like your typical love triangle, but it is far from it.  I can’t help but think that everyone was a villain, yet everyone was also the victim.  Whatever the case, it is a cautionary tale of passion, betrayal and revenge.  But it is also a case of heartache, regret, accountability for our choices and ultimately, forgiveness.  Welcome to Episode 19, The Murder of Meredith Chapman.

     TRIGGER: This episode discusses child abuse and murder.

     There is a strong need for these kids to have a “forever home”.  It takes a special type of person to be adoptive and foster parents.  They are “godsends”.  The good ones, that is.  Our case today is not obviously about the good ones, but is about people who did not love, protect, or provide a safe place for a child that so needed it.  It is also a case about a department that is overwhelmed, negligent and failed to do their job in making sure that this child was placed in a safe and loving environment.  This case does involve the death of a child.  Welcome to Episode 17, A Broken System: The Death of Victoria Rose Smith.

     There is no stronger bond than that of a parent and a child.  As parents, we want our children to do well; to become independent, successful and well-rounded human beings.  But, sometimes, our children do not become what we envisioned or what we hoped for.  We have heard stories when a parent discovered their child was responsible for a heinous, even unforgiveable crime and yet stood by them, supported them, even if the victim was another family member.  They are left heartbroken, angry and disappointed yet somehow, find it in them to forgive.  That is the love of a parent for their child.  But that is not the case in this episode.  As a matter of fact, Jon Eason wants his son Dylan to die for the murder of his wife Cynthia.

*Trigger Warning* The Death Of A Child

     We hear the heartbreaking stories of children who suffer from diseases, cancers, and other chronic illnesses and the idea of feeling so helpless and if we could, we would take on their disease and their pain.  Olivia Gant was that child in pain, and it took her life at only seven short years.  Olivia went through numerous surgeries, hospitalizations and endless treatments.  Despite all that, she was a very spirited young girl and would scream and fight and say, “I don’t want another owie”!  But Olivia should not have another ‘owie’ because she did not have a disease, nor did she have a chronic illness.  Rather, her condition was brought on at the hands of her mother and a medical community who failed to report their suspicions.  This isn’t your unfortunate, typical case of child abuse with bruises and broken bones.  This is a rare form of child abuse called Munchausen Syndrome-by-Proxy...
