       It's time we take our attention to an epidemic that is one of the longest epidemics in history.  Effecting all ages, backgrounds and cultures... and it's in our own communities.
We are tackling another non-murder series with this episode: The Opioid Epidemic where we will discuss the role of Big Pharma, the history and the radical ideas to overcoming this problem.  It starts with a recent case...
     It was a Sunday afternoon, February 20th, 2022, and a call came into 911 from a distraught woman.  When police arrived at the North Range Crossing apartment complex in Commerce City, Colorado.  They walked into what one officer said was a “nightmare of a scene”.  Five people were found dead inside an apartment unit, 3 women and 2 men.  A 4-month-old baby was found alive along with an adult female. 
There were no signs of violence to signify that this was a homicide, nor did there appear to be an environmental hazard such as a gas leak.  But as the investigators looked closer inside the apartment, they knew the perpetrator...  What happened to the 5 deceased people, happened fast and sudden.  So fast that no one had time to call 911.
Evidence appeared that they inhaled cocaine laced with Fentanyl....

     Have you ever gone into a building or a high-rise and wonder if it is structurally safe?  We go into office buildings, stores and even our homes and we don’t think about it.  But why should we?  We have rules, codes and regulations in place to ensure our safety, and we expect those to implemented with the utmost care.  That’s not what happened in this case we’re going to cover.  Innocent people were going about their lives, but little did they know that they were to be caught in a hellish nightmare, with no escape as 42,000 thousand tons of concrete, twisted steel and debris collapsed upon them.
     This was not a natural disaster, nor was it an act of terrorism.  This is a case about greed and corruption.  It’s about a man and city officials who valued money and profit over human lives.  But it’s also the opposite, it’s about human strength, survival and a country coming together to demand changes.  It would be known as the worst peace- time disaster in South Korea’s history.

TRIGGER: A DEATH OF A CHILD

     What is trust?  It is putting your faith in someone or something that is good and honest, safe and reliable so that no harm comes to you or your loved ones.  That trust was broken in one of the most horrific ways on January 27th, 2020.  11-year-old Gannon Stauch was brutally murdered by his stepmother, Letecia.  On that day, the opposing forces of Gannon’s light and Letecia’s darkness, collided.  Because of Gannon’s murder, even in death, his light revealed a truth.  It revealed a selfish woman who lived her life with deceit, lies and ultimately murder...

     Serial killers, mass murderers, family annihilators. Why are some of us fascinated with them?  We ask ourselves, what kind of person does it take to commit some of these horrendous crimes and why?  We also refer to them as ‘evil’. But what is evil, and can we define it?  We’ll look at some real-life and fictional evildoers and how they are portrayed in news, movies and literature.  Finally, we will discuss possible reasons for our fascination with serial killers and what it may say about us.  We most likely will not come up with any definitive answers, but if anything, to have an honest and interesting discussion on the topic and have some fun with it.

     On Tuesday, June 15th, a 5-year-old girl named Summer Moon-Utah Wells went missing from her home in Hawkins County, Tennessee.  She was last seen by her mother and grandmother going into their home to play in the basement.  An extensive search from law enforcement, along with search and rescue teams ensued for the missing little girl.  The story went national, and the parents gave interviews to media outlets.  Rumors and speculation spread rapidly against the parents, impeding law enforcement’s investigation of the missing little girl.  To date, Summer still hasn’t been found.  We’re going to discuss the case of Summer Wells, possible theories on what happened to her and the psychological impact on families of missing people.
