In this episode, Arnie and Fred begin by discussing praying for protection from evil. We look at a couple of passages where Jesus discusses this subject. Associated with that is being delivered from our enemies. We look at what David and Paul had to say on this. A request for peace should always be a part of our prayers to God. John and Paul address this subject. We note what they have to say. A petition for God's mercy is mentioned by both the Hebrew writer and one of the examples Jesus gave for prayer. We looked at both of those instances. One of the things that Jesus promised was eternal life for His faithful disciples. We note the importance of this in our prayers to our Father in heaven. Another aspect of good prayers is to remember the needs of others and to include them in our petitions. Good leaders are a necessity both in the church and in our civil government and prayers for the same are always justified. We close out this episode by looking at the prayer Abraham's servant offered when looking for a wife for Isaac. God's providence was evident in that situation. A lesson to be learned by us from that. We note what Jesus and John said about prayer.  On one occasion, Jesus' disciples asked Him to teach them to pray.  We look at the model prayer that He provided to them and note each part of that prayer. Jesus mentioned holding God in reverence and the fact that so many do not do that. Jesus mentions the kingdom and we discuss how that relates to today's Christians. Jesus prayed to God the night before He was crucified. We note what He said at that most difficult time in His life. The necessities of life are mentioned also. We talk about that aspect of our prayers. Forgiveness of sins is next. We look at David's prayer to God after he had sinned in the matter with Bathsheba. We begin by noting that all sin insults God.  We point out that we are all made in the image of God and to be with God.  When we sin, we deprive God of the glory He should receive by our righteous living. We talk about those sinners who know they sin and need to repent, but they are simply not ready to do so. We note reasons why this is the case. We next look at the fact that all sin grieves God. In this episode, Arnie and Fred continue their discussion of what repentance involves. We begin by noting that every sin involves God. We note what Paul says about that.  Of course, sin always involves the individual sinner. We talk about the spiritual damage one incurs when participating in sin.  Of course, sometimes the sinner entices someone else to engage in disobeying God.  We look at that. Sometimes a particular individual is singled out as in the case of Joseph in Egypt. We note that situation and what Joseph did. We talk about how God is always a victim in any sin. This is illustrated in the occasion with David and Bathsheba. We discuss that situation. Sin also insults God and always involves at least a small portion of unbelief. We note what God said to David when he and Bathsheba sinned. Finally, for this episode, sin always shames God, and we look at how this is possible. Arnie and Fred begin this episode by looking at the prophecy concerning Jesus' virgin birth which was recorded by Isaiah and the specifics there. Matthew refers to this prophecy and we look at what he says.  We then move to the first prophecy about Jesus which is found in Genesis. We note the promise that God gave to both Abraham and David. The time of Jesus birth was originally prophesied by Daniel during the rule of Cyrus. We talk about how specific Daniel was by looking at what he wrote. The place of Jesus birth was revealed originally by Micah. We discuss what he said as well as Luke's notice of it. The sad occasion of Herod killing all the infants in Bethlehem was prophesied by Jeremiah. We look at what he said and Matthew's record of what happened. Isaiah foretold of Jesus' ministry of teaching and preaching throughout Israel. We look at several places where Matthew records the fulfillment of what Isaiah wrote. David wrote of Jesus' crucifixion in specific terms. We read about that. There were soldiers who guarded the tomb who told the religious leaders what was done who were paid by them to lie about it. Peter and the disciple who loved Jesus were mentioned. It is believed that the one who loved Jesus was John. Several women are mentioned by name who saw Him. Two individuals on the road to Emmaus spoke with Jesus after His resurrection and had a meal with Him. Various numbers of the apostles saw Jesus on numerous occasions during those 40 days. The occasion Stephen saw Him is described in Acts 7. We also know that the two disciples who were selected to be considered to replace Judas saw Jesus.
