The Recovered Therapist

What is the Enneagram?

The Enneagram originated as an oral tradition about 2000 years ago in Afghanistan. It later spread to Asia, Bolivia, Chile, and eventually to the US, where Claudio Naranjo passed it on to a Jesuit priest, Bob Ochs, SJ. It became a course at Loyola University in Chicago in 1971. Based on a simple symbol, it explains the journey of self-discovery into personality types. It is said that the One God walked around dispensing nine aspects of Its personality. If one follows the compulsion for safety, it is a journey of self-salvation. But if one goes against that compulsion, the journey is one that looks at the One God for salvation. Today, there are many explanations of this work, and there is a lot of confusion.
