When equine influenza struck in 2007, about 50 thousand horses were affected across 6 thousand properties, resulting in restrictions, lockdowns and improved hygiene. Dr. Mark Schembri is an equine veterinarian and a GP at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He says the COVID vaccine alone won't be enough, and restrictive measures must remain in place until the immunological response to the vaccine takes place.
