  • Human Rights, Empowering Communities & Unfiltered Beauty
It’s almost been a year since Roe V Wade was overturned in the US and in that time Canadian women have watched in horror as our American sisters have their human rights violated. It’s important we don’t get too distracted south of the border though and pay attention to what is happening here. Megan Johnston from Abortion is Healthcare joins me to share what we need to focused on to protect our own rights.
Every year Canada’s most vulnerable population leaves money they are entitled to from the government on the table. These funds can make a huge difference in their lives which is why Food Banks Canada is helping helping food bank users claim refunds and benefits in partnership with KPMG. Kirstin Beardsley joins me to share how it works.
Anne Brodie is in with new entertainment and this week we look at The End of Sex, an hilarious look at two people trying to spice up their marriage, Crave’s comedic, satirical take on Watergate with White House Plumber, and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story which is more delicious eye candy from Shondaland.
When’s the last time you took a picture and didn’t filter it or photoshop it. It’s hard not to in a society that is constantly pushing and promoting unrealistic beauty standards. Nuovo Photography wants to change that. Founder Catherine Theoret and marketing manager Devin Hickman join me to share how their six photography studios across North America are helping women fall in love with their natural beauty.
Seasonal allergies affect nearly 18% of Canadians according to the Government of Canada, and that means there are just over 6 million people walking amongst who may not be feeling their best. Further, for those living with Asthma, seasonal allergies only intensify their symptoms. Dr. Christine Palmay joins me as part of our ongoing series with Care to Know to share information you need to know.
Finally Lindsay Misiner & the 7th Mystic is a 9 piece, Halifax-based Soul and RnB band featuring an eclectic group of musicians with undeniable talents and personalities. Their long awaited debut album released April 12th, and Lindsay joins me now to share a little bit about the new album before we play the song When I Had You Baby!

  • Empowering Conversations: Women, Environment, Entertainment, and Finance in Today's World
As the AI revolution continues to unfold, deep fakes are on the rise, and alarmingly, over 90% of deepfake victims are women. Amber Mac has been following AI and in particular deep fakes closely and joins me today to discuss how and where it’s created and distributed, the damage it can cause, and what we can do about it. This is an important discussion all women need to take seriously.
Canadians throw away over 3 million tonnes of plastic waste every year and only 9% is recycled while the rest ends up in our landfills, waste-to-energy facilities or the environment. Kayli Dale and Jacquie Hutchings founded Friendlier to help stem the tide of this environmental nightmare, by drastically reducing the use of single use plastics in restaurants.
Anne Brodie joins me with entertainment and this week we take a look at Twice Colonized which follows Inuit lawyer and sealskin clothes designer Aaju Peter over seven years, the story of Joseph Bologne AKA Chevalier, a French Creole violinist, composer, conductor and fencer in Paris at the time of Marie Antoinette and the French Revolution, and Mrs. Davis, a fun, smart, and action-packed movie starring Betty Gilpin.
Last month, Dr. Mita Manna joined me on behalf of mbctime.ca to discuss metastatic breast cancer or mbc for short, to provide valuable information for those either living with mbc or who know someone with mbc. This month we’re joined by Karima Jessani. Karima is from Ontario, is a wife and mother to three, and has been living with metastatic breast cancer since 2013. Karima is here to share insight into her battle with this illness and the common misconceptions surrounding breast cancer.
Money is never too tight to mention around her. In fact, the only way to make it through these troubling times is to talk about every aspect of our finances. That’s why I invited Jess and Colleen from Two Girls Investing to join me today to share their tips for riding out this economic storm we find ourselves in.
Finally Tara Maclean recently released her bestselling debut memoir "Song of the Sparrow," which has received critical acclaim from numerous artists and publications. Alongside the book, Tara also released an accompanying album which is a collection of reimagined past work and new material. She joins me to share a little bit of the story behind the book and the album before we play the single "Lay Here in the Dark.” for you.

  • Navigating Climate Change, Parenting Teens, and AI Policy: A Dynamic Discussion
How did our federal budget rate when it comes to climate change? Lisa Gue, National Director of Policy with The Suzuki Foundation, joins me to discuss how much progress this year's budget has made towards a clean economy and if it will be enough.
Aly Pain is here to help us answer the age-old question parents everywhere ask of their teens, "Why are you not living up to your potential?" As always, Aly has a fresh look at how to approach this with your teen and tips on how you can achieve better communication with your teen so that you can actually let that question go for good.
Anne Brodie is here with new entertainment, and this week we take a look at the Palme d'Or-nominated film SHOWING UP starring Academy Award nominees Michelle Williams and Hong Chau, Sophie Jarvis' feature debut Until Branches Bend is an ambitious marriage of eco-responsibility in the face of corporate disinformation, and Mrs. Maisel's manager Susie, played by Alex Borstein, is ballsy, loud, and sharp-witted – and so is the Alex Borstein we meet in Alex Borstein: Corsets & Clown Suits, available on Prime this week.
AI is advancing at such a rapid rate that it is leaving not only people but the institutions and businesses they work in playing catch up. Many small businesses, for example, have not likely drafted an AI policy for their workers or contractors they work with, and that puts them at risk. Cat Coode from Binary Tat joins me to share what exactly the consequences are if you don't have an AI policy in place and what you should consider when drafting one up.
Finally, Apryll Aileen's music is charged with charisma and passion. A fan favourite at music festivals worldwide, Apryll transcends genres, creating her own undefinable sound with influences coming from pop, rock, electronic, folk, and R&B. She joins me today to catch us up on all she's doing before we play her new single, Catch Me, in its entirety for you.

  • Living with Bipolar Disorder, The Whole Animal, High Cost of Fast Fashion, and Starter Dog
Nearly 398,000 Canadians have bipolar disorder, and with World Bipolar Day just passing us by on March 30th I felt it was important to shed a light on it. Yollanda Zhang has launched a Live Talk Series on “Lessons from My Bipolar Journey” to help normalize conversations about mental health challenges and reduce stigma for all. She's here to discuss mental health and World Bipolar Day, and to share her insights on how we can all play a part in preventing anyone from feeling like they have to suffer alone.
It took Corinna Chong 15 years to write and release her book The Whole Animal, a collection of short stories that looks at gender roles as they relate to relationships, identity and autonomy in society. Already receiving rave reviews, Corinna joins me to share a little bit of the story behind the book.
Anne Brodie is in with her regular Saturday Night at the Movies, and Gen X’ers will rejoice hearing about the return of two icons. First Kevin Bacon stars in Space Oddity directed by his wife Kyra Sedgewick and which Anne calls “a bold twist on the standard romance, with some comedic, heartwarming elements, set against a major life-changing conundrum” and next is the return of Rob Lowe in Unstable, a new series on Netflix co-created, written, and starring his son John Owen Lowe.
We all love finding bargain on great clothes, but fashion, particularly fast fashion has a high cost we’re not thinking about enough. The environmental and social impacts that companies like Shein, H&M, and FashionNova have on our environment are disturbing, but even more disturbing is the human toll. Karishma Porwal  is a 25 year old climate educator and activist who has been talking about everything from fast fashion to earth-friendly meal choices on her social media pages since 2020 and joins me today to share what we should all be thinking about when we get dressed each day.
If you’ve ever owned a dog, or thought about owning one you’ll definitely want to hear more about Rona Maynard’s story. Rona and her husband rescued a dog Casey, and Rona quickly fell in love and noticed that just about everything around her changed with her new four legged companion. Her new book Starter Dog is available for pre-order now and Rona joins me to share a bit of the story including the prison time her dog did before he came home with her.
Finally If you’re looking for your next great outdoor Canadian adventure then you absolutely want to stick around until the end to hear more about Andrea Minty’s new documentary Tripping Train 185 available on TVO and YouTube that starts airing April 7th. Train 185 takes outdoor enthusiasts through some of Ontario’s best natural landscapes for the adventure of a lifetime.

  • Empowering Women, Care to Know, Food Waste, Fighting for Julian Assange, & A Death At the Party
Women in Canada make up less than a 1/3 of elected officials and that’s bad for everyone, and yes that means men too. Having women in elected positions leads to more inclusive and equitable representation, diverse perspectives, and better overall governance, ultimately benefiting society as a whole. Shari Graydon, founder of Informed Opinions is committed to changing our political landscape and has launched balanceofpower.ca to help women attain power to drive positive change in their communities and improve the lives of more Canadians.
I am thrilled to share a new partnership at What She Said with Care to Know. Care to Know.ca is a free resource where Canadians receive the latest health information, updates on new and existing treatments and advice from Canadian doctors via email. Over the next six months we’ll take a closer look at seasonal allergies and asthma, skincare, diabetes, weight management and menopause but today we’re going to share how caretoknow works with Dr. Christine Palmay so you can stop going down rabbit holes with Dr. Google.
Anne Brodie is back with another big Saturday night at the movies and this week Kiefer Sutherland is back in Rabbit Hole, a new series on Paramount, Gabriel Basso stars as a low-level FBI agent pulled into non-stop action in Netflix’s new The Night Agent, Director Jean-Christophe Klotz's thrilling history of Hollywood's part in bringing Nazi war criminals to justice in Filmmakers for the Prosecution, an adaptation of Sandra Schulberg's Monograph and an urgently important documentary.
Next up, Anne is back with an interview with Julian Assange’s Dad and brother, John and Gabriel Shipton. Julian is perhaps The most famous hacker publisher in the world and remains in London's tough Belmarsh prison awaiting possible extradition to the US to face trial for espionage. If convicted, he faces 175 years in prison. His crime? Leaking videos of US military war crimes against Iraqis, provided to him by soldier Chelsea Manning and published on WikiLeaks. Assange's father John Shipton, and brother Gabriel continue to lobby for his release citing freedom of the press as Assange's mental and physical health continues to deteriorate. Don’t miss this interview.
I love a great whodunit, which is why I was so thrilled to catch up with Amy Stuart, author of the newly released A Death At the Party from Simon & Schuster. Amy joins me to share how she kept the pace non-stop in this day in a life story that will have you on the edge of your seat and guessing to the bitter end who the victim will be.
Finally, food waste in Canada remains a huge problem, in fact, Canada is the worst in the world for throwing away food. Think about that. Our small little nation is #1 for all the wrong reasons. Part of the problem are those best before dates which muddy the waters for consumers about food safety. Lori Nikkel, CEO of Second Harvest joins me to clear the air.
