  • Kris Collins AKA @KallMeKris Talks About Her Rise to Fame on TikTok
When the world went into lockdown in March of this year hidden talents were unearthed everywhere as women looked to combat boredom and keep depression at bay. Some of us discovered we were baking queens, others explored knitting and needlepoint, large swaths of the population went back to school to chase degrees and new career opportunities, and a lot of us found ourselves on TikTok. Pre-Covid, TikTok was still largely considered a Gen Z social app, but the pandemic changed all that and everyone from first time moms to senior citizens found themselves connecting and creating community virtually. My next guest started her TikTok account in April and as of this recording has amassed 4.8 million followers. Dubbed the CEO of Facial Expressions, it’s not hard to see why people flock to her. She is all at once, funny, warm, self-deprecating, smart, beautiful, and thoughtful. Simply put, you can see her as your best friend, and let’s face it, we could call use another best friend. • Tomboy, The Surprising History and Future of Girls Who Dare to Be Different
As I record this the El Dorado fire in California has burned over 14,000 acres. Aside from the sheer horror Californians are facing right now, it’s even more insane to think that this particular fire was started by a gender reveal party, crazier still, it’s not the first time. You can’t help but shake your head and ask “why are we so obsessed with gender”? Maybe it’s time to examine not just the damage we’re doing to our planet but to our children by fixating on it. When my next guest’s daughter came home and declared herself a “tomboy”, she didn’t just question what that word meant, but felt compelled to find out where it came from and how it’s evolved over they years and that deep-dive into one word has led to her book Tomboy that explores the gender spectrum and offers us all incredible insight into how we can do better for our children. Meet Lisa Selin-Davis.

  • The Future of Food is Here and It's Buggy
There was nothing more disconcerting for many of us than entering the grocery stores in late March and early April 2020 and seeing the shelves bare. Of course, we had all seen images like that in our life from other countries, but to actually experience it, was an entirely different feeling. Like most things in life, being told something could happen feels abstract to us. So when it comes to the future of food, maybe this experience has made us collectively understand that things are changing. Our dependence on meat is harming the planet, bees are dying, and climate change is laying waste to crops around the globe. We will need to start looking at other sources of nutrition soon, and some of it is going to feel very very odd to us. Entomo Farms is ahead of the curve though, with cricket farming, an excellent source of protein, good for the planets, and comes in as many flavours as your favourite potato chips. Lauren Keegan, CEO of Entomo Farms joins me to discuss everything you wanted to know about cricket farming and then some.
