Show Notes Episode 378: What It Jiggle, See It Wiggle

This week Host Dave Bledsoe offers to show a little cleavage if it can help with his bartab only to get the entire bar shut down for uncontrollable vomiting. (Again.) On the show this week we turn back to the magical time in television history when we were not afraid to admit we were there for the boobs! (And it was glorious!)

Along the way we learn that Dave’s Mom wouldn’t allow him to hang racy posters on his bedroom wall, so he had to masturbate to posters of Iron Maiden. (Not that there's anything WRONG with that!) Then we dive right into the history movies, television and sex. (Along with how they were very worried White People would be offended.) Then move right along to the halcyon days of what was called “Jiggle TV” in the greatest jiggle show of all time, Charlie’s Angels! (Poor Bosley, they did him dirty!) Then we tell you about all the OTHER jiggle shows where the plot (such as it was) was secondary to the beautiful women barely dressed on the show. (Wonder Woman was WONDERFUL!)

Episode 377: New Coke: Catch the Pepsi

This week Host Dave Bledsoe gets very, very angry about this new orange flavored Jameson and angrily demands the bar toss it out immediately, only to be the one who gets tossed out. (Again) On the show this week we tell you what REALLY happened when Coca Cola changed its formula back in the 80’s (Spoiler Alert: It didn’t go well)

Along the way we learn why Dave drank Diet Coke as a teen (He was a wee fat baby!) Then we dive right into the history of Coca Cola from its beginnings as a booze and cocaine fueled “cure” for morphine addiction up through it being placed on the American flag. (Trust us, they wanted to do it!) Then we discover why Coke changed (people liked Pepsi) and that most people LIKED the new formula. Sadly, SOME people didn’t and they were very LOUD about it. (You know the kind of people we are talking about!)

This week Host Dave Bledsoe passes out, falls off his barstool and has his consciousness uploaded into digital representation of himself, only to be promptly turned off, deleted and wake up back in his regular old body in an alley. (Again) On the show this week we are talking about the faux CGI charmer that wowed the world for about eleven minutes, Max Headroom.

Along the way we discover why everything is so bright and neon in the 80's. (It looked futuristic to them) and then we dive right into how the BBC created a fast talking rubber faced facsimile of a man to host a video show. (Don’t think about it too long, it doesn’t make sense.) Then we follow along as Max journeys to America where network television doesn’t get that they are the but of all the jokes on the show. (Until they do get it and promptly cancel the show) Then we explain how Max Headroom became a commercial dreamboat despite being rabidly anti-commercialism. (How? Money, of course.)

This week Host Dave Bledsoe throws a tantrum when he cannot find a single ¼ inch to RCA audio patch cable anywhere in Best Buy and has to have several drinks in a nearby dive bar to calm his nerves. (Always some excuse with this guy.) On the show this week we tell the tale of the early tech giant you probably bought your first cell phone from in the early 2000’s. (It is Nokia ringtone time!)

Episode 372: Video Home System Killed the Betamax Star

This week Host Dave Bledsoe gets all nostalgic with some old home videos only to discover something unspeakably horrible on a tape labeled “David’s 12th Birthday” (Actual footage of his 12th birthday, god he was a fat little kid!) On the show this week we tell the tale of the most brutal conflict of the 1980’s, the war between VHS and Beta (So…Much…Blood)

Along the way we discover why Dave isn’t allowed in any movie theaters anymore. (It would be better if it were a Pee Wee Herman thing) Then we dive right into the creation of home video, from its absurdly British beginnings to the mighty Titan that was Sony striding across the land. (Spoiler: Sony loses). Then we dig into General Curtis LeMay’s porn preferences for reasons never truly explained, only to veer back on topic with the tale of two tape formats and the brief but bitter fight over which one would dominate the world. (It turns out to be the one that is slightly cheaper.) We wrap up with a delightful but completely irrelevant tangent on why people called Montgomery Ward department stores Monkey Ward. (Are there monkeys involved? You’ll have to tune in to find out, or, you know, Google it.)

Show Notes Episode 371: “The Dog’s Name Was Harvey” Pt 2 of the Summer of Sam

This week Host Dave Bledsoe decides to spend a little time at the Dog Park, which is a very disreputable strip club in Bayonne New Jersey where hopefully they haven’t heard of him. (They didn't extend him credit.) On the show this week we wrap up the Summer of Sam with part two, the arrest, confession and trial of David Berkowitz. Then we get to the good stuff about the Devil! (Satan insists he would NEVER hang out with a loser like Berkowitz.)

Along the way we learn why cops give people tickets when they would rather be watching porn. (Everybody has a boss!) Then we dive right into how the Summer Sam finally ended because one woman nagged the cops into actually doing their damn jobs! (That is usually how that happens.) We learn about David’s motivations for killing (girls didn’t like him) and how a dog named Harvey told him to kill. (Harvey insists he would never hang out with a loser like Berkowitz.) We take you through the bullshit stories that Berkowitz spun to get out of the death penalty that NO ONE BELIEVED. (Except for this one guy named Maury.) Then we take you down the dark path of conspiracy theory that Maury Terry took and leave you just as disappointed as Maury was in the end.

Show Notes Episode 369: We Really Had A Blackout

This week Host Dave Bledsoe tries to remember if he paid the ConEd bill or if he is about to experience his own mini-blackout. (Again) On the show this week we head back forty five years to 1977 and that time ConEd decided to turn all the fucking lights out in New York City. (Again.)

Along the way we learn how Dave used to live in the kinds of places where the power goes on the regular. (Turns out, you DO have to pay that electric bill!) Then we dive right into the night of July 13th 1977 in New York City. (The Met sucked as always) and how the gross failure of the Consolidated Edison caused all the lights to go out for 24 hours. When that happened, things got…exciting? (In the OH MY GOD WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE! Kind of way)
